Rx for Resilience: Recalibrate

This week the Japanese landed their lunar expedition on the moon- sideways and 180 ft from the landing site goal.   Japan is the fifth country to achieve this feat, behind the U.S., the Soviet Union, China, and India.   This mission was on the heels of a failed U.S attempt which was a collaborative effort by Astrobotic and NASA.

The ongoing difficulty of the lunar and other planetary missions are the most challenging undertakings imaginable by humans. Whether you aspire to go into space, go to the deepest part of the ocean (like James Cameron), or take on the loftiest, intimidating goal that you can fathom, you may have to recalibrate, readjust, and recast your way forward.   Achieving the seemingly impossible is hard and some aren’t built for the setbacks. But the setbacks are what propel us forward to achieve the hardest deliverables.  We are inspired by the Japanese mission and the recent U.S. mission — their courage, their follow through, and their ability to recalibrate when it matters most. The failed attempts to the moon, and those which fell short, are full of lessons learned, getting us closer to achieving our ambitious goals in space and on earth.

The Houston-based commercial vehicle company, Intuitive Machines, will try to land on the moon next month. If successful, it will be the second time the U.S. has accomplished this in 50 years.

If you want to be inspired by someone who was able to recalibrate in the face of years of setbacks, watch the movie, A Million Miles Away about the first Hispanic Astronaut and GloablMindED Inclusive Leader Award winner, Jose Hernandez.
