Duck Cup Memorial Fund and New London-Spicer Schools presents

Minding Your Mind with Mallory, Mental Health Advocate

New London-Spicer's SOCON group has again partnered with Duck Cup Memorial Fund to bring a dynamic speaker to our district on the topic of mental health and positive relationships.  Mallory, Mental Health Advocate, is a lifelong competitor in athletics who eventually met an opponent where winning wasn't the objective. By facing her mental health challenges, Mallory has learned how to be vulnerable and engage in healing. Today, Mallory uses her story to tell others their voice is powerful, they are allowed to be human, and healing does indeed exist.

Free Community Event: February 6th at the NLS PAC

6:30pm Open to the Public

Free Child Care will be provided by National Honor Society Students.

Throughout the day on February 6th and 7th, our middle school and high school students will attend an age-appropriate version of the presentation with their grade level.

Middle School Minutes

New London-Spicer's YES Club spent time last fall collecting seeds to be used for seed spreading this winter. The students are pictured preparing the 5 tubs of seeds before spreading them in the snow. Last week, these same students taught the 5th Grade Science classes about spreading the seed on the pollinator plot near our Middle/High School. Retired teacher, Laura Molenaar, assisted Mrs. Paffrath in organizng this project.

We have started Math Counts for grades 7 and 8 and students will be competing in live competitions for the first time in two years. Math Masters is also underway for 6th grade participants.

8th graders recently completed reading projects. They analyzed picture books with refugee and immigrant stories, and social emotional themes to evaluate the speaker's point of view and to use details from the text to determine the theme of a story, drama, or poem. They read books in class, made a poster to represent the literature element found, and ended by reading with Ms. Thein's 5th graders!
