Hello from Haiti!

In Haiti, it's more than the new year.

In Haiti, January 1 is more than the new year. It's also Independence Day which makes it a big day of celebration throughout the country, and especially in the churches. Churches typically hold a service on December 31 that starts in the evening and continues to welcome in the new year after midnight. It's a time of celebration, worship, and prayer. This is one of the biggest days of the year in church life. Churches will be packed on New Year's Eve and it's a lively occasion.

Two churches got a big surprise.
Haiti Cheri's founder, Dr. Oris Guillaume, got an idea to give two churches and the families in them a nice surprise for the new year. Inflation has been running rampant in Haiti and gang violence at the ports and elsewhere has created issues with distribution throughout the country. An adequate supply of food is out of reach for many people. Malnutrition is an ongoing, endemic issue with no immediate solution in sight. All of this makes food an incredibly valuable gift to most families. Dr. Oris was able to work quickly with his friends in the north of the country during the last week of the year so that we could deliver a nice, big surprise to two of our partner churches located in the villages of Dolval and Bois-Pain. We were able to purchase a large truckload of rice, beans, tinned meat, spaghetti, and other food which was then transported to the villages. The people were surprised and amazed when they saw they were getting this wonderful gift as a part of their celebration.

It was a collaborative effort.

We are thrilled we had the resources in Haiti Cheri's account to do this, thanks to your giving throughout the year. Not only that, we collaborated with Mitspa Baptist Church in Norcross, GA which provided part of the funding. Dr. Oris also serves as interim pastor at this church and we worked together to pull off this year-end gift. We received many photos and videos by WhatsApp from people in the villages expressing their thanks for this surprise. We pass on their thanks to all of you and to Mitspa church as well! You are the ones who make things like this possible because you give. We wish you a wonderful New Year as we look forward to see how God is going to work not only in Haiti, but also in your own homes as well.
Blessings to all,
