COVID-19 UPDATE
This week, free COVID-19 drive-thru testing will take place on Wednesday, January 6 from 2:30-6:30pm and Saturday, January 9 from 8:00am-12:00pm at the Phillips Park Field House at 585 Humphrey St.

Please stay tuned for additional testing dates which will be listed on the Town of Swampscott website and Facebook page.

SMALL BUSINESS GRANTS
The Town of Swampscott is offering grants to small business owners to help them continue operations as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. This program will help pay for rent/mortgage, employee wages, and technical assistance. Applicants may apply for up to $10,000. Completed applications are due Friday, January 8, 2021 by 10:00 AM.
What happens after you are tested for COVID-19? Take a look at this helpful graphic that guides you through the steps and what you should look out for. The most important thing to note? If you are awaiting results, ANSWER THE PHONE even if it's a number you don't recognize. It could be someone calling you to discuss your test results or let you know you have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 and need to follow appropriate quarantine protocol. On Thursday, January 7 at 6pm, Swampscott Public Library will present Sofia McDonald, a Law Fellow at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI). Sofia will discuss EJI and the work they do for ending Mass Incarceration and helping those who have been wrongly convicted. EJI was founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, author of the book Just Mercy.

This program is offered as part of the Library’s program: One Topic One Town: A Journey Towards Dismantaling Racism.

Burrill Street Bridge Lighting Installation
If you haven't already, take a walk or drive under the newly-lit railroad bridge on Burrill Street. In addition to new customizable lighting, the bridge features an art installation entitled "Now and Then" consisting of eight 4x6' panels featuring artwork of local artists or historic postcards.

The lighting can be customized and will change to reflect seasons, holidays, and important events.

Thank you to artists Laura Reeder, Debbie Kennedy, Liz Smith, and Lighting Designers Peter Wright (Lewis Lighting Design) and Dan Carnevale (Apex Lighting) as well as the Department of Public Works.

Learn more about the installation and each of the murals here.
The snow storm that came through Swampscott in December dropped 14" of snow. DPW workers worked hard for 24 hours to keep streets and sidewalks cleared and salted. Thank you to all of the DPW staff for keeping Swampscott moving, even under a foot of snow!
