Fundraising Update
This really is the season of giving…. In the last week alone, our Friends of Scouting Campaign (FOS) has increased by $15,000 and we received a $10,000 grant from The A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, Inc., a $5,909 grant from The Sears Family Foundation of Rome, New York; and a $3,000 grant from Northland Communications! Northland increased its annual gift by a factor of ten this year! Also, thanks to many of you, we have now raised 72% of our $120,000 FOS goal for December 31, 2021.
Donor Spotlight:
Northland Communications
Please join us in recognizing Northland Communications, and Maureen McCarthy Tracy, Vice President of Community and Connections, for the $3,000 year-end grant to support local Scouting programs. Northland Communications is a third-generation family-owned business that provides telecommunication services to businesses in Central New York. Their origins date back to 1905 with the incorporation of their parent company, Oneida County Rural Telephone. Their rich history has provided invaluable experience, financial stability, and significant resources. Northland’s emphasis on the customer and team member experience and creating a positive impact in the communities they serve is the foundation of their core values. These values transformed Oneida County Rural Telephone into what Northland Communications is today.

SCOUTS' TIPS
Recharter Process
To: All Leatherstocking Council Units
Subject: Rechartering Process
From: Council Headquarters

We have been getting a number of questions about rechartering. What is the new process? When can we start? Why haven’t we been told anything? Unfortunately there is not a good answer for any of these questions.
National rolled out the new online recharter process in the beginning of November and the new system has been less than optimal to date.

What we know:
  • No more access codes. Only a member of the unit Key 3 or a Key 3 Delegate has access to the Recharter by logging into My.Scouting.org or Internet Advancement 2.0 to complete the renewal.
  • No paperwork to print and turn in, everything is digital, and the COR must digitally sign the charter renewal using a link they get in an email, so every COR must have an email address.
What Steps You Can Take Right Now:
  • During December review your roster rosters and submit any new applications you may be holding.
  • Change any positions that need to be changed before beginning the charter process.

Strongly Recommended:
  • It is recommended not to pay online. With the number of adults who have multiple positions in different units if not marked or done correctly the program will miscalculate your total amount due.

So please work on the steps we can do now and as we get more information we will pass it on. We are sorry for the inconvenience but want to remind everybody that we are all in this together.
Youth Protection Training
We would like to take this time to remind everyone that Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required yearly. The best time to take Youth Protection is during the fall before charter season starts. Units that do YPT training together please considering scheduling it for November to avoid holidays and weather.
