Puesta del Sol Lottery for Kindergarten 2023-2024
The Open Transfer and Choice Schools/Program application period for the 2023-24 school year will be from 9am Monday, December 5, 2022 through 4:30pm Friday, January 20, 2023.
Puesta del Sol will accept non-resident entry level applications and non-residents will be placed on a waitlist for consideration after all resident students have been placed.

We can do more--together!
A new location can help give us a fresh perspective and renewed energy!
We have more coming up on the horizon for PTA (another fundraiser, and more Education Enhancement and activities). We'd also love to hear more ideas from our Puesta del Sol community on what you'd like to see. But we can't do this without your help or hearing from you!
If you haven't yet joined PTA this is a great time to join and get involved!

We'd also love to hear your ideas on how to assist our school community, or help you find opportunities that match your skills/interests. Soon we hope to launch PTA office hours where community members can stop by if they have a question or just say hi. Please watch out for communications coming soon, but always know we are just an e-mail away (you can e-mail president@puestadelsolpta.org).

What a Year 2022,
and Hello 2023!
2022: What a Year!
Puesta del Sol PTA, we aren’t even halfway through the school year and have already accomplished an incredible amount.
Straight from first day of school events and since, we have been volunteering for in-class and out-of-class educational enhancement, Family Fun events, fundraising, and more—all working together to make impactful change for our school community.
To cap off the calendar year, we put our teamwork together with teachers, staff, families and the community to finally make the years-long efforts to move Puesta del Sol Elementary to its new building happen.
Seeing all the faces celebrating the last week at our old building was a great reminder of the thousands of students who graced its halls in the past, and of the adventures to come in the new location.
We appreciate the efforts that YOU have put forward, and all we’ll accomplish together in 2023!

Again, a world of thanks to our Puesta del Sol community for taking the time out of their busy schedules to assist with the move!
It could not have happened without:
- Our awesome teachers and staff (moving while still teaching our kids!)
- Families helping with the move
- The planning, design and construction teams (this work started years ago!) Sierra Martin Architects, Spee West, Weisman Design Group
- Graphics from Runa Nakayama from Runi Project for the updated graphics to welcome us to the new school
Also, a special thank you to Jubilee Reach for their organization efforts. Their volunteers work with the public schools, their community center, their thrift store, and community-building events to help in the local community.

January Passport Check
January Passport Check will be on Wednesday, January 25th in the NEW library! Come volunteer to check out the new space. If your child is interested in doing Special Itinerary, Mozambique is the country of the month.

Lunar New Year
Sunday, January 22, 2023 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year. The Lunar New Year is considered one of the most important celebrations among many East and Southeast Asian cultures, including the Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities. It is called Lunar New Year because it begins with the rise of the first new moon of the year and lasts until the next full moon arrives. Each culture brings family and friends together to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a variety of different foods and traditions that symbolize prosperity and abundance.
In the Chinese Zodiac cycle, 2023 is a year of the Water Rabbit. The Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
The Puesta del Sol community celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and commits to honoring his legacy. The theme for the 2023 Holiday is “It Starts with Me: Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset to Transform Unjust Systems” (more info here: https://thekingcenter.org/king-holiday-2023/).
Puesta del Sol families can make Monday, January 16 a “Day On” by engaging in learning or service opportunities:

Host Families Needed for 2023-2024 School Year
The Amity Program offers interns a unique cultural and teaching experience at Puesta del Sol. We have four amazing interns this year who are serving in various classrooms.
We are looking for host families for the 2023-2024 school year. Hosting can be 3-6-9 month experience. If you are interested in learning about the program or hosting, or connecting to a current host family, please contact amity@puestadelsolpta.org.

Garden Club Chair Needed
PTA Garden Leadership is Open!
Yes, there is a garden plot for every classroom at the new school! Now we need someone willing to help guide Puesta del Sol’s new garden and post-pandemic garden program for the PTA. The position is open starting now. It is an incredible opportunity to introduce students to the natural world we rely on in a hands on, sensory way. Kids adore the garden; it’s a fun and meaningful way to spend an afternoon! If you are interested, please email schoolgarden@puestadelsolpta.org
