ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS...
We are wrapping up another chaotic and emotional year of animal rescue at Ozarks Kat and K9. The needs of the dogs and cats in the lake area are endless...so many strays and animals that need help.

As this year comes to a close, we would like to give thanks to all of our dedicated employees, volunteers, board members, adopters, donors and everyone who supports us in any way they can. Your time, money and effort on all fronts of animal rescue saves the lives of hundreds of lake area dogs and cats each year.

We are thankful for the animals in our care, who show us their unconditional love and gratitude on a daily basis. We are blessed by every dog and cat who we help to find a new home and by those whose hearts and wounds we help to heal. For those special gentle souls who come to us too late to save in this lifetime, we thank you for allowing us to show you love in your final moments, for keeping us humble and reminding us that we are not perfect, but must still strive to do our very best for every animal we encounter.

We look forward to the upcoming year for all the new friends we will meet - both two-legged and four - and pledge to continue helping as many lake area pets and pet families as possible with all of our resources. From all of us at Ozarks Kat and K9, we wish you all a very happy and safe holiday season. Merry Christmas!
THRIFT STORE NEWS
The OKK9 thrift store currently has a selection of fun rescue themed t-shirts in a variety of colors and styles printed up as a fundraiser for the shelter animals. The grey shirts with black printing are photo-reactive and pop with colors when exposed to sunlight! Shirts are $20 each and all money raised goes to help support our animals.

The thrift store is always in need of volunteers. Please contact our store manager, Penny Braker, either in person or by calling 573-374-2639 if you are interested in helping out.
OKK9 RECEIVES LAKE AREA GRANT
We are thrilled to announce that Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter is a 2021 grant recipient from the Community Foundation of the Lake. The Karen Jean Rudek Fund grant provides support for horse and dog shelters, sanctuaries, and rescue facilities with preference given to Lake of the Ozarks organizations. The money received from this grant will be used for our OKK9 Low Income Spay/Neuter Financial Assistance Program to help with getting many lake area pets altered.
Help with spay & neuter costs for low income pet owners is available through our financial assistance program, with surgeries primarily done at Lake Dog and Cat Veterinary Hospital in Laurie, MO. Call 573-552-7743 and leave a message for information and referrals. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.
ONLINE ADOPTION FORM!
Our online adoption application makes it easier for potential adopters to apply for a new family member! Click the "Adopt, Don't Shop" photo to fill out and submit the form directly from your phone or computer.
Monetary contributions to Ozarks Kat and K9 can be made using the DONATE button on our Facebook page. Because we are a registered non-profit charitable organization, Facebook takes no fees from these donations.
Our animals appreciate you!
PEOPLE OF OKK9 - BOARD SPOTLIGHT
(by Angi Uber, Shelter Manager)

This month, we would like to aim our spotlight on our Board President, Mark Engstrom. Previously, Mark was the managing director at Accenture in Illinois, serving Caterpillar. He also volunteered with the Peoria Humane Society in Peoria, Illinois. He is an avid fisherman and classic boat enthusiast. In 2017, we were blessed to meet Mark when he relocated to the Lake area and began volunteering at our animal shelter. His love for animals is endless and his heart is enormous. The animals appreciated his visits several times a week to get them out for walks and one on one enrichment time. He quickly became a huge part of our organization by volunteering to help with special events, headed up projects, and handled daily handyman work.

Mark joined our Board of Directors in 2019. He has been a big part of helping our “Dogs Play For Life” play-groups become so successful, built our wonderful cat enclosure so that they can enjoy outside, and overseeing the contract signing with our current veterinarian. He has adopted several of our animals, both cats and dogs, in order to let them live their best lives. In May of 2020, Mark was appointed to the role of President. We are grateful to have him, as he is inspired to serve, willing to learn, and dedicated to effective governance.

The OKK9 Board of Directors meeting is the third Wednesday of each month at 3:30pm. Meetings are held in the shelter building's assessment room and are open to the public.

COMMUNITY BARKS AND MEOWS
The Happy Hour Hunnies, a book club sponsored by the lake area Newcomers/Longtimers service-and-fun club, chose OKK9 as their Christmas service project for 2021. Hunnies member, Elizabeth Bradbury and her husband Steve brought us a carload of goodies in December on behalf of the book club, including dog and cat food for our pet food pantry, dog beds, a dog crate, towels and kennel bedding, along with a monetary donation. Thank you Happy Hour Hunnies for your generosity towards our animals!
