November 4, 2021
Dear Hart Families,

These 3 day weeks fly by quickly. Our teachers worked hard on Monday and Tuesday collaborating and growing together. I am continually humbled by our staff's commitment to excellence that they strive to achieve each day to ensure our students are growing. Today, we were spoiled by our PTO with a yummy BBQ baked potato lunch. A big thank you to the Breaux Family for sponsoring our catered Dickey's BBQ teacher luncheon. It was scrumptious, and we ALL loved it.

Last Friday, we honored our Hart Heart of a Teacher and Heart of Support for October. Mrs. Anderson, our Heart of A Teacher recipient, is a hardworking and dedicated first grade teacher. She goes above and beyond to create strong relationships with her students and parents. She is willing to think outside the box for creative solutions to help her students grow academically and emotionally. For Heart of Support, Alis Brantl, our PEIMS clerk, was recognized. Mrs. Brantl is friendly, helpful, positive, flexible, and welcoming to all. She has a servant's heart, and she is the Heart of Hart. Please join me in congratulating both of these well-deserving ladies.
A huge thank you to Brad and Kasey Havens and the team at Lovejoy HVAC for donating and recognizing our October Lovejoy ISD Heart of a Teacher and Heart of Support recipients!

All recipients received a $50.00 Target gift card from Lovejoy HVAC.
On Wednesday, the Hart Elementary Library received a donation from the Armistice Memorial Post 2195. Retired Air Force Captain, Larry Nordgaard presented Mrs. Dawson with the book Twenty-One Steps. This book is a narrative of the unknown soldier, telling the history of the tomb beginning with the soldier's ultimate sacrifice made in World War I. I know that our students will enjoy reading this book and learning more about our unknown soldiers. We hope that you will be able to join us on Thursday, November 11th as we honor our Veterans. This is a small token of our gratitude for all of those who have served. Our second graders have been working very hard on this program. It will definitely be a can't miss event.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

All My Best,
Wendy Craft

Parent Enrichment: Parenting with Love and Logic
Bring your lunch and come to a Parenting with Love and Logic parent enrichment program on Tuesday, November 9th. Hart PTO will be hosting Life/Parent Coach Amy Egan at 11:00 am in the Leopards Lair! Love
and Logic is basically a process by which children grow through their mistakes and learn from the consequences of their choices. Children learn the best lessons when they're given a task and allowed to make their own choices (and fail) when the cost of failure is still small. Some of the program topics of discussion will be defining the most successful parents, never argue or defend yourself (instead use one-liners), few words-more action, mistakes are good (the road to wisdom is paved with mistakes) and more compliments-less reprimands to name a few. Hope you can join us!
Veterans Day Assembly: November 11th
You are invited to join us for our Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 11th at 10:00 am. Please invite your special Veterans to attend.

Why Attendance Matters
How important is it for kids to be in school?
School attendance is a baseline factor in determining school success. A missed school day is a missed opportunity for students to learn. Regular attendance fosters a classroom connection between teachers and students. Attending school also provides time for social interactions with peers.

Did you know that?
Attendance is the most significant driver in the funding Lovejoy ISD receives from the state each year?
A 3% reduction in the yearly average daily attendance (ADA) can cause the district to lose $800,000 in funding.
An increase of 1% in the yearly ADA can fund 3 teachers’ salaries.
Although it may seem insignificant that the district loses $50 a day when a student is absent, consider the impact when 250 students are absent across the district and the district loses $12,500. Multiply that by 15 days and it is a loss of $187,500. The impact is significant.
Attendance taken at 10 AM determines the ADA funding that Lovejoy ISD receives for that date. If the student is on campus at that time, LISD receives approximately $50.00 per student. If a student is absent, ADA is lost.

Lovejoy Letter Campaign
Lovejoy Family!! The 8th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun! Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.

The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and the administration in our district. It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.
Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher’s name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at the specified location of each campus no later than Friday, November 12th. Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year!

Please see the sign-up genius below if you would like to donate blank cards for this campaign.

These can be left at the front desk. There will be cards on the front desk that you can use to write notes and a basket to place them in as well as a large bin with a red lid labeled “Lovejoy Letter Writing Campaign” for dropping off letters outside the front door of the school. We will start collecting notes the week of 10/25/2021, and the deadline for letters is 11/12/2021.
