Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative Forest Health Grant

Update

Status Update

With Saratoga recording over 18 inches of rain since Christmas, it is no surprise that all vegetation treatment operations were halted until conditions improve. Dry weather is forecast for the next 10 days and we are hoping that this sunny weather pattern will allow the soil to dry out enough to restart operations on the project inthe next week or two. There are a number of trees that were blown down in the project area and MROSD is working to clear access. Our project team will carefully evaluate the soil and forest conditions to ensure that no negative impacts occur and to ensure safety of the crews working on the project. We are hoping the rest of the winter is not as dramatic!

The Santa Clara County FireSafe Council (SCCFSC), CAL FIRE, San Jose Water Company (SJW), Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) and Santa Clara County Parks (SCCP) have formed a collaborative partnership known as the Los Gatos Watershed Collaborative to implement forest health treatments on approximately 938 acres strategically located throughout the Los Gatos Creek Watershed in the Santa Cruz Mountains. These treatments will thin underbrush and remove dead and dying trees to improve forest health and fire resilience.

The Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative Forest Health Grant is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
