Ron Beiersdorf has been with Pleiger Plastics Company for 35 years. He moved to western Pennsylvania from Colorado in November 1986, trading sunshine and blue skies for cold temperatures and rain to help start the company in the United States.
His first office was a cinder block room with a desk, phone, and the Thomas Registry. This was Pleiger Kunststoff's first operation in the U.S. with a mission to help introduce and cast 'Vulkollan' (the Trademark name of Bayer/Convestro Chemical Leverkusen, Germany) to the U.S. markets.
Even though Ron had prior experience working for a urethane company, this new position involved researching and creating industrial markets for Vulkollan. This very high-end material is not suitable for all markets. Early on, all production was done in Germany until the plant was functional 1 1/2 years later. Eventually, Pleiger expanded its market to include other urethane's. Some of his greatest satisfaction was developing the initial markets and watching Pleiger's successful growth in the U.S.
Ron says he enjoys working at Pleiger Plastics, especially the great relationships he has developed with the Pleiger family, his customers, and coworkers.
