Volunteer to Join the PTSA Board
|
The Madison PTSA is still (desperately!) seeking to fill the following positions:

Treasurer: The Treasurer manages the funds of the PTSA, submits monthly financial reports, and prepares taxes and license and membership renewals.
-
Building Leadership Team (BLT) Representative: The BLT is composed of staff, teachers, and parents, and aims to promote and facilitate collaborative site-based decision-making. Madison's BLT meets on Tuesday mornings via Teams.

|
On Wednesday, October 20, MOD Pizza (4755 Fauntleroy Way SW) is donating 20% of takeout, delivery and pickup orders to Madison Middle School ASB. Funds raised will be used to support student activities like drama performances and team uniforms.

Gender and Sexuality Alliance
|
Madison's Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is a safe space for all LGBTQIA+ students and their allies to come together, get support, and effect change within our community. The first meeting will take place on Friday, October 22, during Advisory. Interested students can sign up here. Please e-mail Ilana Malone with any questions.

Madison Middle School has formed a Students of Color Union to celebrate, empower, teach, discuss, and explore the Student of Color experience. The group meets every other Friday during Advisory. Interested students should email Tavar Proctor.

Madison Wellness Center Flu Vaccines
|
Hello, and Happy Fall! We are pleased to start offering the Flu vaccine for registered students, available immediately. Sonya Luchauer, our Nurse Practitioner, is in the clinic and available to administer vaccines all day on Mondays and Wednesdays, and half day on Thursdays. Families can email Anna, our Health Center Coordinator, or call (206) 933-7842 to set up an appointment.

Donate Your Clothes to the Nurse's Supply
|
Nurse Mindy is requesting clothing donations for students needing a change of clothes during the school day:
- Gently used or new solid dark girls leggings in sizes Medium, Large and XL
- Girls underwear packets (such as Hanes or Fruit of the Loom)in a range of sizes from 10-18
- Gently used or new boys basketball shorts in sizes Medium, Large and XL
Please have your student bring the clothing in to the Madison Wellness Center. Thank you!

Dental Day
Your student can receive dental care at the Neighborcare Health School-Based Health Center located at Madison Middle School on Friday, October 22. The dental program uses portable equipment and all procedures are performed by our licensed dentists and dental assistants. Any student registered with the Health Center is eligible to receive care. No student will be denied services due to inability to pay.

Picture Retake Day
Madison Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26 for students who were absent and those who ordered a picture packet and are unhappy with their image.
Parents, please remember to send your purchased packet back to school with your students to hand off to the photographer.

Washington State Healthy Youth Survey
Madison 6th and 8th graders will participate in the Healthy Youth Survey in their Science classes on Friday, October 29. The survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services.
Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students' answers are anonymous. Parents may request their student opt out of the survey by emailing Sue Quigley, 8th grade counselor.

Transportation Update
Beginning on Monday, October 18, Seattle Public Schools suspended many bus routes. Please contact the school if your student has no other way to get to school without bus transportation. SPS will be providing affected students with an ORCA card to ride the Metro bus.

Update Your Password on
The Source
For increased security, the number of characters required for your Source password is changing from 8 to 12 which will require you to change your password. This change is only for parents and guardians; students will not need to change their password.

Flu Vaccine Clinics
SPS is partnering with the Seattle Visiting Nurse Association to provide flu shot clinics for the public at schools across the city.

The Seattle Public Library is Here for You!
|
Free tutoring: The Library offers free online tutoring for students seven days a week. Your child can get one-on-one help with math, science, writing, history, SAT test prep, college applications and much more. Tutoring is offered in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. You’ll just need a Library card and pin.
Library Link: You don’t need a Library card for digital Library resources such as tutor.com or e-books – all Seattle Public Schools students get instant access through the Library Link program. Library staff members can help you with any questions. Just call 206-386-4636 or go to www.spl.org/Ask.
Virtual Dreamathon: This all-ages community celebration on Saturday, October 23 is one of SPL’s biggest fall events, aimed at helping us all develop our pandemic toolkit for fall and winter. With speakers such as Dr. Ben Danielson and Black Panther Aaron Dixon, who worked with local kids to develop a program for community well-being, this program will connect and inspire.
