DCR Charitable Foundation Awarded Grant
The DCR Charitable Foundation applied for a Dual Training Grant with The Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE), Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI). Determining the grantees of the Dual Training Grant is a competitive and extensive process. Application requests totaled over $4.4 million, and OHE was only able to award about $3.3 million. We are excited to announce the Foundation has been awarded a $76,000 grant. This grant will fund training for up to 40 individuals in health care with a focus on Phlebotomy. Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) is our program partner.

Chamber Board Meeting at the SMART Center
The Chamber Board held their meeting at the SMART Center in Inver Grove Heights. After the meeting agenda, Sheriff Tim Leslie and Deputy Sheriff Joe Leko presented to the group about the 35,000-sqaure-foot facility that opened in 2021.
Dakota County has a smart solution to the growing need for crisis intervention training for first responders. The Safety and Mental Health Alternative Response Training (SMART) Center is a permanent home for crisis response and de-escalation training that gives law enforcement officers and other first responders the “soft skills" to improve their interaction with people experiencing a mental health crisis.

What Got Done and What Didn’t During the 2022 Legislative Session
Minnesota legislators worked until their midnight Sunday deadline to pass important legislation, but many bills did not get passed. Legislators are negotiating with Gov. Tim Walz about the possibility of a short special session to get some of the items they didn't get to before their deadline to adjourn. Some prefer waiting until next year to spend the remainder of the state's projected nearly $9.3 billion budget surplus. Hero’s Pay, unemployment Insurance, reinsurance, liquor, broadband are just a few that got done. What did not get done that are important to the business community are taxes, public safety, and housing.
