Important Update on Spring 2022 Semester
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

As many of you know, COVID-19 rates are spiking in our region and state after the holidays.
To help prevent the spread of the virus in our community, we will temporarily transition to online services, distance education, and remote working from January 18 through February 25.
A Majority of Classes will Be Online, a Limited Number Will Meet In Person
  • The majority of courses and student services will be offered remotely from January 18 through February 25.
  • Students can expect to receive class meeting details from their instructors, or check on their Canvas Course Shell.
Campus Remains Open
  • During this time, essential services such as campus libraries, bookstores, food pantries, and child development centers will remain open.
  • Facemasks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Employees
  • Starting January 18, until February 25, only staff whose work is deemed critical to current operations will be expected to report in-person to work.
  • Staff not required by their supervisor to report to campus or the district office are expected to support the continuity of operations by working remotely from home.
Campus Events
  • If you had planned to host an indoor campus event during this period, please transition the event to meet online, if possible. Alternatively, postpone in-person campus events until after February 25.
Vaccine Requirement
  • Consistent with the SBCCD Board of Trustees vaccine requirement, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated.
  • Students who are planning to take Summer or Fall 2022 semester courses must obtain a vaccine by March 11. Additional information about providing proof of vaccination will be forthcoming.
  • Facemasks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Frequently Asked Questions
  • We continue to update the SBCCD COVID-19 Information website with new information and answers to frequently asked questions for both students and employees. Please continue to visit this site regularly for updates.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility

Martin Luther King Day - January 17, 2022 (Campus closed)
Monday, January 17, 2022, marks the 27th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader's life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only national holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. It is also a time to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought. A time to remember his fight for the freedom, equality, and dignity of all races and peoples through nonviolence.
SBVC Ranked in Top College for Hispanic Students
In its October issue, San Bernardino Valley College was recognized by Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine as one of the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanic students.

San Bernardino Valley College was ranked #28 in “Total Enrollment 2-Year Schools” and #55 in “Total Associate Degrees Granted” for the 2019- 20 academic year. Hispanic Outlook on Education releases its Top 100 lists every year to show the national progress Hispanic students make in higher education and applaud the colleges and universities leading the way. San Bernardino Valley College’s student population is 68% Hispanic, making it a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). There are currently 570 HSIs across the country, according to an analysis by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) released in 2021. HSIs made up 17%of all institutions of higher education. They also enrolled 67% of all Hispanic undergraduate students.

“San Bernardino Valley College is proud to be a Hispanic-serving institution,” Interim President Dr. Scott W. Thayer said. “Students come here knowing that they will find support from faculty, staff, and administrators who want to help them succeed. The tools they equip themselves with here at SBVC will serve them well no matter what path they take after graduating.”
 SBVC Launched Discord Server
San Bernardino Valley College launched a Discord server in September 2021, giving students and alumni an exclusive and centralized location to share and build community online. The platform is growing in popularity among universities and four-year institutions, but SBVC is one of the first community colleges in California to launch an official public server. Discord is a free instant messaging and digital distribution platform. Users communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, and media files in private chats or as part of communities called “servers.”

Paul Bratulin, Director of Marketing, Creative Services and Public Affairs, said current and former students could use the platform to connect academically and personally. “The SBVC Discord server allows students to maintain a campus community in a virtual space,” Bratulin said. “From forming a study group to seeking career advice from their peers, students can easily communicate and stay connected through this platform.” During the COVID-19 pandemic, several social networking platforms and chatting apps experienced exponential growth as people sought to connect online during social distancing. Discord was among those platforms, growing to over 140 million monthly active users as of the end of 2020. SBVC’s Discord server allows Wolverines to ask questions, share information and stay updated on campus news and events. Users can also set their roles to show pride in their academic progress or as alumni of SBVC.

Physical Therapist Assistant

Minh Duong began his journey at Valley College in the fall of 2008, right after graduating from San Gorgonio High School.

Shortly after, he changed majors, chose to pursue HVAC/R, and was on the Dean’s List. Minh completed the program with an A.S. in HVAC/R in 2012-2013. More
Zane Rice
Private Pilot

Zane Rice is flying high now that he has earned his private pilot’s license. Zane, 19, completed ground school through San Bernardino Valley College’s FAA-certified aeronautics program, signing up for the course in spring 2019 during his sophomore year in high school. The Loma Linda resident has several pilots in his family, and his father encouraged him to take ground school in person rather than online for a more enriching experience. More
