This Weekend in Worship

John calls people to repent, to clear the decks, to completely reorder their lives so that nothing gets in the way of the Lord’s coming. The reading from Isaiah gives the context for this radical call: the assurance of forgiveness that encourages us to repent; the promise that the coming one will be gentle with the little ones. Isaiah calls us all to be heralds with John, to lift up our voices fearlessly and say, “See, your God is coming!” We say it to one another in worship, in order to say it with our lives in a world in need of justice and peace.

Scripture Readings for Sunday

Christmas Greeting from Bishop Eaton

Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton shares a Christmas greeting, “The Prince of Peace at Christmas”. Click here to view the video.

The Christmas greeting was recorded prior to Bishop Eaton’s four to six-month leave of absence, which she requested to begin in November. Upon granting her the leave of absence, the Church Council of the ELCA appointed the Reverend Michael Burk, former bishop of the Southeastern Iowa Synod, as presiding bishop pro tempore and will care for the responsibilities of the presiding bishop during her leave of absence.

Churches Beyond Borders

Advent Cycle of Prayer

The leaders of the ELCA, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, the Anglican Church of Canada and The Episcopal Church have released the Churches Beyond Borders 2023 Advent Cycle of Prayer. The church leaders contributed prayers for the four Sundays of Advent, focusing on the themes truth, justice, peace and hope, especially for churches impacted by the war in the Holy Land, and for lifting up Palestinian Christian communities and ministries and the congregations and institutions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. Mission & Core Values

The Faith Lutheran Church Council in 2022 entered into a time of discernment around the question, “What is God calling us to in the future?” In June 2023 a task force was appointed by the Council. They’ve completed their work, and now it’s time for all Faith members to engage in conversation around God’s mission and Faith’s purpose and core values. Click here to read the proposed Mission & Core Values statement and learn about upcoming opportunities for conversation.
