Recently, the state announced a projected, record-setting $7.7 billion budget surplus, but some policymakers still want to raise YOUR taxes. If the state doesn’t address the existing $1.1 billion deficit in the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, employers will see UI payroll taxes skyrocket. An enormous budget surplus and overflowing government coffers is not the time to ask the public for more money. Minnesota’s high tax rates already put us at a competitive disadvantage.

This record-breaking surplus means the state should provide relief from a preventable tax increase on businesses still struggling to recover from COVID-19 restrictions, a workforce shortage, and supply chain disruptions. Contact your legislators and Governor Walz and ask whether or not they support raising taxes on struggling small businesses while the state has a record surplus.
