Leadership touts Carolinas Energy Economy in SC

Last week, E4 Carolinas (E4C) President & CEO John Morrison, Board Chair Jeff Merrifield, and Board Members Weston Adams and Bryan Stone (co-chairs of the SC Clean Energy Industries Task Force) met with SC Governor Henry McMaster to discuss the breadth and scope of the region’s energy economy and it’s potential for growth in the coming years. The Governor commented that this type of economic development activity is “right up our alley” and “we will be calling on you” as his team works to recruit and retain energy-based capital investment. The Governor asked if the E4C team was “talking to Harry,” a nod to his Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey, III, to which Board member Adams replied, “he’s our next stop!” And, indeed, at this next stop, the leadership team shared nearly an hour with the Secretary and his Deputy Secretary Ashely Teasdel identifying ways E4 Carolinas can best support the state’s efforts to pivot from the traditional view of energy as an enabler of cluster-based economic development to viewing energy as its own cluster to develop. Both meetings drew on materials the E4C team presented earlier in the day before the SC Public Service Commission in an Ex Parte Briefing that is available to watch here under the title “2/3/2022 - ND-2021-44-E.” The presentation is available here under Matter ID #305239.
