‘Tis the season: Broccolini, Painters give back
Throughout the construction community this holiday season employers and workers are taking stock of their bounty and finding ways to give back to the communities where they build.
In the GTA, Broccolini employees and management as well as union rep Ivan Dawns of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) have announced their charities of choice. Broccolini staff have committed to assisting crews from Dixon Hall’s Meals on Wheels program in Toronto’s downtown east district with meal delivery to needy seniors and others, while Dawns and members of his union are preparing to feed 300 on Christmas Day at the Back Door Mission in Oshawa.

Over the years, the work achieved so far was done with consultation from accessibility experts.

Maple Reinders hosts 12 Gifts of Safety Campaign
Maple Reinders kicked off its 12 Gifts of Safety campaign earlier this month in an effort to make December the safest month of the year, despite it historically being one of the most dangerous in construction.
In the health and safety world, fit for duty is a term used to gauge if an individual has the physical and mental capacity to safely work, states an email to the Daily Commercial News from Maple Reinders, adding if a worker’s focus is dominated by the number of personal commitments that December brings or if a person is struggling with loneliness, guilt or financial troubles during the holidays, these situations can serve to distract them and make them complacent at work.

Global Modular Construction Market to Witness Growth as Demand for Efficient Construction Methods Rises
According to Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Global Modular Construction (MC) Growth Opportunities, a shift in awareness toward the use of modular buildings because of the COVID-19 pandemic has unlocked growth opportunities in the MC market globally. Prefabricated or off-site constructed building units, such as walls, floors, rooms, and frames, are associated with the industry. In response to socioeconomic trends such as the labor shortage, sustainability, and customer demand, MC aims to address the post-pandemic era’s call for more efficient construction methods. As a result, the global MC market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5% to $142.06 billion by 2028, up from $103.09 billion in 2022.
