WINTER WEATHER UPDATE

With the threat of winter weather and potentially dangerous driving conditions this evening, we are cancelling all normal Wednesday evening activities for tonight, February 2. This includes First Wednesday, Children's Choir, Midweek (student ministry), Adult Grow Groups, and Worship Band rehearsal. We will reschedule the First Wednesday prayer meeting to next Wednesday, February 9, at 6:00 pm. Stay warm, and we look forward to seeing you Sunday!

FIRST WEDNESDAY (1W): NEXT WEEK!

WEDNESDAY | FEBRUARY 9 | 6:00 to 7:00 PM

In recent months, Pastor Larry and our pastoral staff have increasingly felt led by the Holy Spirit to equip VRBC to strengthen our prayer – as individuals and as a church. As part of this conviction, we will be gathering in the Seminar Room on the first Wednesday of each month this spring to pray together.

At First Wednesday (1W), we will aspire to tune our hearts to the Holy Spirit through worship, to offer specific training on the many-splendored facets of prayer, and then to unleash you to pray about a broad variety of topics in a broad variety of ways (including praise, thanksgiving, confession, and requests for guidance and spiritual growth). We hope you’ll join us next Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the Seminar Room!

DEEPLY ROOTED KICKOFF

FEBRUARY 20 | 11:00 AM | WORSHIP CENTER

When walking though a forest, it's easy to be impressed by the majesty of the trees towering above you. But perhaps even more impressive is something you can't see: the complex system of roots beneath the ground that support and nourish the tree. The same is true of the Christian life. When you see someone thriving, filled with love, joy, and peace regardless of their circumstances, you can be sure that beneath the surface, their spiritual life is supported by a deep connection with Christ. They are deeply rooted.

Beginning February 20, our Grow Groups will be going through a nine-week experience called "Deeply Rooted" that is designed to strengthen and deepen your faith. Through brief, daily devotions, weekly Grow Group conversations, and several unique experiences, you will have the opportunity to extend your roots deeper into Jesus, enabling you to thrive, no matter what is happening around you.

If you aren’t in a Grow Group yet, it’s not too late! You can join one of our existing groups at vrbc.net/grow. If you’d like to experience "Deeply Rooted" but aren’t ready to join a group in person, you can also register for an online "Deeply Rooted" group at that same link. If you are already in a group, begin praying now that God would use this season to strengthen and deepen your faith and to bless our church!

AGES 18 MONTHS TO 4 YEARS

Preschool online registration for Fall 2022 is now open! We want to assure you that the safety of your children is of utmost importance to us. MEALS WITH A MISSION

FEBRUARY 25-26 | VRBC

Serving our community is part of VRBC's DNA, and one of our favorite ways to do that is through cooking! With that in mind, we are excited to invite you to join us for "Meals with a Mission."

Every quarter, VRBC volunteers prepare and distribute several hundred meals right here in the VRBC kitchen to distribute to families in need in our community. Our next event will be held on February 25 and 26 and we would love to have you serving right along with us! There are a variety of serve opportunities available—take a look here and find the one that suits you best. Meal distribution will be a contactless, drive-through process. For more information, email Arthur Mendes at amendes@vrbc.net.

MISSIONARY SPOTLIGHT

JIM & SHARON MUSTAIN | LOVING COMMUNITY

What would it look like to train women and men to live as missionaries in the places they live, work and play? Beginning with that goal in mind, Jim, a former VRBC staff member, and his wife, Sharon, founded Loving Community in 2014. Their hope is to live out the good news of Jesus as missional practitioners and inspire others to do the same.

As a faith and community leader, Jim serves on the board of directors of multiple businesses and nonprofit organizations. He also is engaged in city government and is a frequent speaker for civic groups, local school districts, and city gatherings on the topic of volunteering and being a good neighbor. As a community pastor, Jim helps churches develop strategies of connecting and engaging in their communities and with local non profits.

Loving Community's geographic footprint spans Southern Denton and Collin counties. Their ministry can be found in local neighborhoods, schools, business gatherings, civic events, and faith communities. Embracing the good neighbor teachings of Jesus (John 1:14), the relationship-building activities of Loving Community are seen through mentoring school children, leading neighborhood events, developing disciples and missionaries, and training and partnering with churches on community ministry.
