A Holiday Movie Matinee

Come watch a favorite holiday movie with us Monday, December 18 at 1pm!

"Desk Set," starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, is a 1957 comedy full of Christmas, romance, "AI", and librarians.

A bit more about the movie: Automation is coming for Librarian Bunny and her reference department at the TV Station in the form of computer expert Robert. Who will win this battle of wills, the computer or the humans?

Holiday Programs and More!

Can you believe the holidays are upon us already? We’re here to help you celebrate with holiday-themed programs in December.

In the best spirit of the season, once again we’re sponsoring a Giving Tree to provide Christmas gifts to Merrimack Valley homeless children and teens served by Emmaus, Inc. Through its shelters and housing programs, Emmaus has served thousands of young people since 1985, and on any given night 300 adults and youths call Emmaus home. Please help ensure that these kids have a happy holiday by donating gifts through our Giving Tree – last year our wonderful patrons were able to meet every wish, and we hope to match that success this year! If you’d like to help, just drop by the Children’s Room, choose a Wish List item to purchase, and put it (unwrapped) under our tree by December 15. Thank you for making some Christmas dreams come true!

Of course we’re also offering our usual array of storytimes, baby & toddler fun, and book groups, but we also have few other unique opportunities to mention: our “Reading is Magic” program series/reading challenge continues through the end of the month and wraps up with a Magical Ball; and we’re offering a couple of special crafting programs for ages 5-9 (“Snow Clay with Lisa Buglione”) and for ages 10-13 (“Ten to Teen: Snow Globes”). And don’t forget Murphy the Dog, who will be here on December 11 and 29 – he’s a very sweet and appreciative audience for kids who enjoy reading aloud to him!

Last but not least, especially for parents of young children, we’ll hold another Parents Peer Group session. If you are a parent of a preschooler (infant-5 years old), you might enjoy this opportunity to connect with other adults whose kids are in that age range, to exchange ideas, information, stories, and advice. (Or just to chat about anything!) Come spend some time with your peers; we’ll have plenty of toys on hand to occupy your little ones while you enjoy some grown-up conversation.

Keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and Facebook page to learn the latest about upcoming programs, fundraisers, and special events – there’s always something interesting going on!
