Her interest in printmaking goes back to when she moved to NYC in 1943 after art school at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and studied at Stanley William Hayter's printmaking studio, Atelier 17.
It was interesting to learn that artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, Willem de Kooning and many others made prints at the New York Atelier 17 in the 1940's and 1950's.
In addition to my mother's Epcot poster she did posters for Lincoln Center, museums, galleries, universities etc. Her art was on the cover of the 1999 book titled "Dorothy Gillespie" as well as on the cover of playbills, annual reports, magazines, note cards etc. (See below)
