Celebrating Our Graduates
Celebrating Our Class of '22 Graduates

We are wrapping up this school year by celebrating our graduates. We begin with our Student Trustee Nasma Wali-Ali. Upon graduation from Inderkum High School, Nasma has chosen to attend Columbia University as a Kluge Scholar for the 2022-2023 school year. A Kluge Scholar is a highly prestigious scholarship for students who have demonstrated excellence and will contribute positively to the Columbia community. We wish Nasma all the best in her future endeavors as we celebrate her amazing accomplishments!

K and 1st Grade Girls Create Self Love Letters

Kinder and first-grade girls at H. Allen Hight participated in an activity that included self-love letters, friendship values, exploring emotions, and mindful breathing lessons as a part of the district’s partnership with Girls Leadership. As part of this partnership, Hight serves as one of Girls Leadership Power Lab Schools where Girls Leadership staff collaborates with the school’s kinder and first-grade teachers to conduct research and determine the assets and needs of girls. The outcome is used to co-design programs and lessons that not only benefit girls at Hight but across the country and internationally.

The district also partners with Girls Leadership to offer mentoring programs. The LeadHership Club was offered to middle school girls at Banon Creek, Jefferson, and Natomas Middle. A pilot is concluding for high school girls at Natomas High School. To demonstrate what they learned to their families and to be recognized for their growth and journey in the afterschool program, Natomas Middle School LeadHership girls concluded their program with a family dinner, lessons learned, and a special dance presentation. Check it out! It will definitely warm your heart.

AAPI Heritage Month celebrations underway

May is AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. We are excited to spend the month sharing how our schools celebrate and highlight AAPI culture, including activities, literature, lesson plans, and more. To kick off AAPI Heritage Month, we invite all families to attend a movie night featuring Disney's "Raya and the Dragon" at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at Paso Verde School. This event will also include a cultural dinner and martial arts presentation.

Learn more about AAPI Heritage Month on our social media accounts. We will educate the community with important facts about AAPI culture, share a compilation of books, articles, and resources that teachers plan to incorporate into their instruction, and highlight other AAPI engagement activities throughout the district.

Help Your Child Succeed in School: Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early

Did you know?

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.

Here are resources and tips provided by Attendance Works that highlight what you can do to build the habit of good attendance early.
Accepting Applications for the R.I.S.E Scholarship Program

The Natomas Schools Foundation in partnership with the R.I.S.E (Inspire, Succeed, and Educate) Scholarship Program is awarding four eligible seniors $500 to pursue their post-secondary education.

The R.I.S.E Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a college degree or a two (2) year vocational degree. Preference will be given to first generation college students and/or students attending a two (2) year community college or vocational school who have endured hardship and/or overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. This scholarship is based on the belief that education is one of the best tools to allow one to rise up from current circumstances, inspire others to do the same, thereby leading to success and allowing one to be in the position to help educate and/or give back to other their communities.

The deadline to apply for the R.I.S.E Scholarship Program is Friday, May 13, 2022. Feel free to download the flyer and application at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sWB0TYcJzwzs_hAml565DxiWYxCAZFXy?usp=sharing.
