Liability with MD Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2 p.m.
As an artist or creative small business person, there are a bunch of ways that you can think about legal liability: Are you personally liable for things that happen related to your arts practice or do you have a business entity set up to limit liability? Do you have a verbal or written agreement that might speak to potential contract liability? Do you have all the copyright and trademark permissions you need to avoid infringement liability, or do you think someone else might be infringing your work? During this workshop, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will discuss business entities from LLCs to sole proprietorships, contracts, and intellectual property, so that you have a better understanding of how to protect your business from inside to out. Join MSAC in a virtual journey to Marylandâs six regions as we continue the Fall Regional Arts Summit over the course of 6 weeks! In conversation with organizations across the state who are excelling in the work of Aesthetic Perspectives, our guests will highlight how the framework appears in their programming. Join us for one, two, or all six regions! No prior knowledge of the framework is required to participate.
Through an initiative known as âAnimating Democracy,â Americans for the Arts published a guide known as âAesthetic Perspectivesâ on which this series is based, as well as our Grants for Organizations application. About Poetry Out Loud
Participation in Poetry Out Loud offers students the opportunity to learn about their literary heritage, build self-confidence, and improve their public speaking skills. The process begins in the fall when participating students select three eligible poems from the POL website, analyze and memorize them, and present the poems at community level competitions. In January and February, each school winner moves on to regionals and, in March, at the State Finals competition, the participants are evaluated on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, evidence of understanding, and overall performance. Do you know about the
Presenting & Touring Program?
Rolling Deadlines with Monthly Reviews
| |
Full Circle Dance Company by Brion McCarthy | |
The Maryland Presenting and Touring Program supports the presentation of Performing Artists from all across the state at your local venue.
Designed to spark collaboration between performing artists and presenting organizations, MSAC offers grants and networking opportunities for artists through the Maryland Performing Artist Touring Roster and for nonprofit organizations and venues through the Maryland Touring Grant.
| |
âThe Maryland State Arts Council's Touring Grant affords organizations the opportunity to enhance their arts programming and community services by engaging Maryland artists. The funding is a critical resource that allows visiting artists to be paid fairly, and the Touring Artist Roster is a valuable tool that connects organizations and their audiences to extraordinary artists, and vice-versa.â
- Port Discovery, past Touring Grant recipient

Are you a performing artist that is ready to âtake your show on the roadâ across Maryland? Consider joining the Maryland Performing Artist Touring Roster!
The Touring Roster is a list of juried Maryland-based artists who have a demonstrated history of successful, professional touring engagements. MSAC uses the roster to promote artistic collaboration between Maryland touring artists and Maryland presenters with the goal of increasing touring engagements for Maryland professional performing artists.
Benefits of being listed on the Roster include:
-
Maryland Touring Grant funding is available to eligible Maryland-based non-profit organizations to support Roster artist booking/artist fees.
- MSAC promotes the Roster and funding opportunities to presenters.
- MSACâs Artist Directory allows each Roster artist to update their profile with current booking information and work samples and provide easier navigation and search capabilities for presenters.
Applications are open to Independent Artists and Performing Companies/Groups who are able to demonstrate a successful history of professional touring engagements. Read full eligibility requirements in the program guidelines.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by a panel monthly.
| |
The Maryland Touring Grant provides funding to eligible Maryland-based nonprofit organizations to support the in-person or virtual presentation of artists listed on the Maryland Performing Artists Touring Roster.
To view the roster, click here to visit the Maryland Arts Directory and use the Filter function to search for artists and companies by clicking the box next to âTouring Grant Funding Available.â
Review the grant guidelines for further information about eligibility and program details.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and reviewed by a panel monthly.
