Trail Counter Data
Spring has sprung and so have the trail users out on our open space and trails. With warm weather, we’ve seen a marked increase across all of our trail counters. Two in particular that had notable increases were The Broomfield Trail and The County Commons trail starting at the Tom Frost Trailhead.
The Broomfield Trail north of Glasser Reservoir has seen a seasonal increase to an average daily traffic (ADT) of 53 trail users, with peak usage at 8 am and again at 4 pm. This is up from a low ADT of 25 trail users in February.
Tom Frost Trailhead at the Broomfield County Commons has gone up to an ADT of 210 trail users, up from a low of 75 trail users per day in February. Much of this traffic is seen in the morning, between the hours of 7 and 9 a.m..
This seasonal change can be seen in the “dip” in the weekly and monthly traffic patterns during the winter months.

Raptor Management Plan
Broomfield is fortunate to have active raptor populations in an urban setting. However, these majestic birds, which include species like the Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owl and Red-tailed Hawk are sensitive to disturbances in their nesting and breeding habitats. To identify ways to minimize habitat impacts on raptors, Broomfield is creating a Raptor Management Plan while also working within the state and federal regulatory framework and respecting private property rights. You can learn more about the plan, how to get involved, and leave your questions or comments about Raptor Management at BroomfieldVoice.com/RaptorPlan.
