Girls Varsity Soccer

In the last full week of the season, the Blue Knights had four games. The girls traveled to play Kenosha Christian Life. From the start, the girls dominated the game and ended up winning 10-0. Freshman forward Johanna Zaleski finished with five goals. The defense barely allowed a shot on goal and finished with another shutout in conference play.

The next game, the girls traveled to Brookfield East, which is ranked #1 in Division 1. Although the game ended with a 6-0 loss, the girls played an outstanding game and got themselves ready for a Midwest Classic Conference showdown with Lake Country Lutheran.

With the conference championship on the line, the Blue Knights were up to the challenge. Taking a 1-0 lead into the half, off of a goal by Johanna Zaleski, assisted by Sydnie Dehne, the team felt confident going into the second half. With tough play going on back-and-forth, midfielder Claire Tracy stole the ball at midfield and delivered a perfect pass behind the LCL defense, where Sydnie Dehne was able to convert a first time shot to the back of the net. That goal turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Lake Country Lutheran did score a goal off of a rebound to make it a one goal game, but BA managed to control the rest of the game to shut the door on LCL for a 2-1 victory. The victory gave BA sole possession of first place in conference for the second straight year!

Goalkeeper Anneke Zaiser made several crucial saves during the game to keep LCL off the board early. The lone goal scored by LCL was the only goal allowed this season by BA in conference play.

In the final conference game and scheduled game of the regular season, the Blue Knights traveled to USM. It didn't take long for the girls to get on the board when midfielder Sally Wilson fired a shot from about 30 yards out that hit the upper part of the goal to give BA an early lead. The game ended with BA winning 7-0. Sophomore midfielder Claire Tracy finished the game with four goals and three assists. Sydnie Dehne played in goal and helped hold onto another shutout. Others getting into the scoring action were Madison York and Johanna Zaleski.

BA earned a #1 seed going into the playoffs next week. BA will play the winner of Dominican and USM on Saturday, June 4, in the Regional finals. Congratulations to the girls for another outstanding regular season!

Varsity Softball

On Thursday, Brookfield Academy's softball team hosted its first home regional game since the program started five years ago. Unfortunately, BA had a tough time generating runs and couldn't keep up with Cedar Grove Belgium.

Johanna Zaleski led things off in the circle for the Blue Knights. The hurler allowed zero hits over two innings, striking out two. Ella Thompson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, striking out three.

Thompson doubled on a line drive to centerfield in the second inning. Leora Schmidt hit a double to left field to drive Thompson in for the Blue Knights' only run of the game. Aureilia Rushing had the most chances in the field and had two assists and two fly ball catches at shortstop.

The team is looking forward to next season. A big thank you to all the parents and families who traveled and cheered for the team! Thank you for all the support!

MS Tennis

The Middle School tennis season came to a close for the Brookfield Academy Gold and Blue teams last week, with each team competing in one final match. The Golds got things started off right with a commanding victory over St. Dominic's. The performance was highlighted by singles victories from Peter Hutt, Ethan Boustany, and Peyton Emling, while doubles combinations of Tyler Weiss/Raghav Vijayapal and Mikayla Hargarten/Marilee Nygro took care of their business.

The Blue team ended things on a high note as well, taking on the contingent from Whitman Middle School. The showdown featured numerous doubles matchups, but the highlight of the match was a victorious singles debut from Luya Zhang. Gold team standout Marilee Nygro stepped in and collected doubles victories partnering Lola Kandula and Celia Muller. Teams of Luke Bullio/Samuel Wilhelm and Arianna Eyzaguirre/Julia Van Bogart also got the jobs done, finishing off a stellar season.
