Message from the Interim Executive Director
Dear Colleague,

How are you doing? We hope that you, your teams, and your families are starting to feel a little better as the weather has improved, vaccines are more easily available, and economic recovery is coming into view. Today, as we celebrate LGBTQIA Pride Month and the official signing into law of Juneteenth National Independence Day as a federal holiday, we also think about the urgent work still ahead to create a just, equitable, and vibrant world.

Throughout the pandemic, as we have co-created forums, training, special reports, bulletins, newsletters – as well as our awards breakfast complete with Red-Carpet Gallery -- we have been so grateful for your partnership! Today more than ever, we rely on each other to connect, collaborate and succeed. Please read on for new resources, great ideas, and wonderful ways to get more involved.

Wishing you all the best for you and your teams!
Paulette Lynch

RAINBOW SPEAKERS AVAILABLE
Rainbow Speakers and Friends is an all-volunteer group whose goal is to open hearts and minds to create a safer, more welcoming world. Our speaking panels educate the public about the LGBTQ+ community through the power of personal stories.

We only can speak if invited. The Q&A following our speaking is most valuable as we encourage all respectful questions to enable our audience to become visible and vocal allies for the LGBTQ+ community. Contact Edie at ediesan@sbcglobal.net to invite a panel.

Check our Rainbow Speakers and Friends Facebook page for resources and the Zoom connection to our monthly meetings. Watch our documentary on Youtube, “Rewriting Love.”
NEW! Profiles in Courageous Collaboration!
Inspired by new developments throughout the county and across the country, we start this new section of our monthly newsletter to honor two courageous leaders, showcase the impact and energize every team. Send us examples that you want to share with our 1,100 nonprofit leaders and supporters: namccommittees@gmail.com
BIG SUR LAND TRUST: CARMEL RIVER RESTORATION
The Monterey County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution recently that will move the Carmel River Restoration project forward. The Monterey Regional Parks District and the State of California are collaborating with Big Sur Land Trust to restore the historic floodplain of the portion of the Carmel River where Carmel Valley meets Highway 1. Monterey County Supervisor Mary Adams: “Big Sur Land Trust is an incredible partner…a model for working with nonprofits.”

MONTEREY COUNTY FILM COMMISSION: “Sizzle Reel” – SITES AND SOUNDS OF OUR COUNTY
With a grant from Arts Council for Monterey County, support from Steve Zmak Photography, and assistance from the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Jeff Clark -- a member of the Monterey County Film Commission board of directors and a noted producer and location professional -- produced a new video showcasing dramatic locations throughout the county from the iconic to the completely unexpected.

BREAKING NEWS: Monterey County Budget Approved
On June 22, 2021, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors passed its budget for this next fiscal year. The total of $1.7 billion is a $16.2 million increase over last year’s budget. At NAMC’s March 2021 Mixer featured speaker Monterey County Supervisor (District 4) Wendy Root Askew provided roadmaps to the county budgeting process. As you could see, whether or not your agency has a direct contract with the county, spending by the county deeply affects your clients, your team, and your capacity to move your mission forward. Yesterday, The Californian published an in-depth article by Angelica Cabral who provides a great breakdown of revenue and expenses along with insights on current challenges and the future direction of our region.
