Share the Plate
Vital support for families
We will share our plate in February with Any Baby Can, an organization that offers many services to strengthen Central Texas families and improve outcomes for children. Programs are wide-ranging: prenatal classes, parenting classes, support groups, early intervention services such as physical therapy or speech therapy, in-home visits, family health services and more. Any Baby Can also offers a range of volunteer opportunities if you want to get more involved in such important work.

Go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for “Share the Plate”.

Share the Plate 2021 Totals
Share the Plate is one of Live Oak’s consistent outreaches into our local community. Here are our 2021 contributions to worthy nonprofits.
Bookworms
Bookworms will be discussing “The Dutch House” on February 16 at 7:15pm. The Zoom link will be on the What's Happening page. For more information about the group, contact Marjorie Taylor.

Member Connections
We’ll be featuring members who joined Live Oak during these many pandemic months in our newsletters. Welcome, Sarah.

Marlo Kaskoto, a lifelong UU, signed up for Live Oak’s newsletter, watched online services and liked what she saw.
“…The community seemed strong and caring. Also, the services are always relevant to our changing times,” she said. She is especially interested in the church’s ESL and literacy programs.
Recently retired as a school administrator, Marlo now has more time for her gardening interests and is working on creating a pollinator garden in her backyard. She has lived in Austin since the 1980s when she moved here from Toronto. An animal-lover, Marlo has cats Harry and Simon and a dog named Jenny.
Marlo enjoys reading. “I generally have several books going at a time,” she said. “Right now, my favorite book is The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow. Their research challenges the traditional views of human history and is a very thought provoking read.”

Social Justice Ministry Intergenerational Activity
Love Guides Our Vote
Yes, Valentines and Voting go together like Sugar and Spice! On February 13th the Social Justice Voting Rights Team is sponsoring a Valentine's activity for all ages after the church service.

We will have cards to decorate on one side; the other side will have printed information about voting like dates, registration and what's on the ballot. After all, the first day of early voting is on Valentine's Day!

This is a great way to be creative and raise awareness on the importance of voting. Our democracy is in trouble. Wouldn't it be great to be a 100% voting congregation! - Carolyn Dower
