At age 66, Bruce Walker isn’t slowing down as he celebrates more than two decades with Sunshine. The account success manager handles the purchasing of supplies for all of Sunshine’s locations and manages the scheduling of residential and commercial window cleaning services.
Before joining Sunshine, he spent 20 years in sales at Standard Sanitary Supplies, a company purchased by Home Depot Pro. Sunshine was his biggest customer at the time. When he approached Sunshine Founder Larry Calufetti about his apprehension about the change, Larry replied, “When are you coming to work for me?”
Bruce’s first job at Sunshine was working as assistant project manager at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. He spent 15 years at that location, working his way up to project manager. After Larry’s passing, Bruce joined the corporate office’s operations department.
He attributes his longevity at Sunshine to the family culture that remains today. “I always thought Sunshine was a family operation,” he said. “Larry was so good to me, both professionally and personally, and I’ve always felt like a member of a family. People leave and new people come in, but that family culture remains.”
When he’s not working at Sunshine, you’ll find Bruce working with his wife, Joyce, at the Oasis Pub, a neighborhood bar in Fort Lauderdale, which they’ve owned since 2006. His favorite hobby, however, is working on the “chain crew” at Miami Dolphins home games. As a high school football official for 30 years, he’s in his happy place measuring hash marks.
Residents of the Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Palmaire Village, the Walkers have one son and are expecting their first grandchild in November.
