from the December 13, 2022 meeting
Nakka, Norwood and Yip-Chuan take oaths of office for new
four-year terms on MUSD Board
At the final MUSD Board of Education meeting of 2022, newly elected Anu Nakka (the first Indian-American to take office in the city of Milpitas) and re-elected trustees Chris Norwood (who was then unanimously voted in as the 2023 Board President) and Kelly Yip-Chuan (who was then unanimously voted in as the 2023 Board Clerk) were officially sworn in for new four-year terms on the governing board.

The Oaths of Office were administered by Assemblymember Alex Lee (a Milpitas HS alumnus) and Supervisor Otto Lee on a special night for the MUSD community. Additionally, trustee Minh Ngo was unanimously voted in as the 2023 Board Vice President.

As part of the annual organizational meeting, the Board also selected their School Site and Committee Assignments, re-adopted its Board Group Agreements, and approved its Board Meeting Calendar for 2023.

The first school board meeting of 2023 is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 at Randall Elementary World Languages School.
  
RECOGNITIONS
Milpitas HS Boys Cross Country Team
The Milpitas High School Boys Cross Country Team, as well as Coach Yohaness Asnake, were honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership for winning the school's first Central Coast Section D-1 Championship along with being crowned League Champions.
Milpitas HS student Marilyn Do
Milpitas HS student Marilyn Do was honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership for earning a Girl Scout Gold Award with a project to support our elementary students in transitioning to middle school. Marilyn also earned the Scouts BSA Eagle Rank in the same week.
Milpitas HS student musician Gavin Huang
Milpitas HS student musician Gavin Huang was honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership for his major accomplishments as a clarinet player including 1st place at the San Francisco International Innovative Music Competition.
Gavin took 2nd place at the American Protégé International Woodwinds and Brass Competition 2022 (age 14-17), and he has been invited to perform on the clarinet in Sydney, Australia as a finalist in the Honors Performance Series.

HIGHLIGHTS
MHS student leaders put in work to build school pride among diverse student body
Milpitas High School Associated Student Body President Victoria Ly shared insight into student campus life and activities this school year in her Milpitas HS/ASB Leadership Report at the December 13 board meeting.

Ly, who spearheaded the Jack Emery Canned Food Drive among many other MHS events, demonstrated how student leadership "further school pride and a sense of belonging to our campus and others" throughout the school year.
Principal's Report: Weller Core Values Program
Weller Elementary School Principal Deanna Elzey, along with Assistant Principal Recep Iscan, shared a Principal's Report on the Weller Core Values Program, which is built around four key concepts: Kindness, Courage, Critical thinking and Connection.
A snapshot into MUSD Culture & Climate
Executive Director of Learning and Innovation Priti Johari and Director of Learning and Development Maurissa Koide led a presentation on MUSD's Climate & Culture Snapshot to update the Board and community on student Culture, Climate, and Engagement.

They shared data from the Climate and Culture survey administered in the fall in conjunction with attendance and suspension data. The survey will be given three times this school year.
