With permission from Concord Theatricals, The Potomac Playmakers are proud to announce auditions for Pulitzer Prize finalist, "The Waverly Gallery" by Kenneth Lonergan. Auditions will take place at our theater, 17303 West Washington Street in Hagerstown on November 14th and 15th from 7-9.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and those auditioning are encouraged to bring a head shot and resume with them to auditions, but they are not required.
The performance dates for this production are February 3-5 and 10-12. Rehearsal schedule will be determined based on the availably of the cast and crew. "The Waverly Gallery" is directed by Nic Sigman. He is looking to cast 3 men, ages 20’s-50’s, and 2 women, age 50’s and 80’s.
Plot:
Gladys, the elderly matriarch of the Green family, has run an art gallery in a small Greenwich Village hotel for many years. The management wants to replace her less-than-thriving gallery with a coffee shop. Always irascible but now increasingly erratic, Gladys is a cause of concern to her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandson, from whose point of view this poignant memory play is told. A wacky and heartrending look at the effect of senility on a family, The Waverly Gallery was a success in its premiere at New York’s Promenade Theatre, winning an Obie for legendary Eileen Heckart in the role of Gladys. Nineteen years later, the play premiered on Broadway, earning a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play and a Tony Award for 86-year-old leading actress Elaine May.

MAD Dance presents “Whale Wall,” an immersive dance theatre performance, on November 19 at 7:00 pm at the Y Arts Center, 115 East Church Street, Frederick, MD. Seating is limited, and advance ticket purchase is highly recommended. Tickets are by sliding scale on the Eventbrite platform (https://MAD-Dance-Theatre.eventbrite.com).
Whale Wall is classic MAD Dance. Equal parts quirky, beautiful, and complicated, two entities adrift at sea ponder all matters of things as they find themselves beached on the shores of a circa 1920s oceanside resort. There they are equal parts mystified and delighted by the stimulating environment. This immersive dance theatre piece ponders how we respond in unfamiliar environments, a meaningful exploration as we all find ourselves in ever-murkier waters in our actual state of current affairs. Defying genre, “Whale Wall” incorporates storytelling, video, song, and an original score to create a unique and one-of-a-kind experience.
“Whale Wall” is created and performed by Kitty Clark and Ray C. Shaw (MAD Dance), with a sound score by composer Cam Millar and contributions from singer Laura First.
The development and performance of “Whale Wall” is supported in part by the Frederick Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
For more information, call 301-331-4398 or find MAD Dance on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MAD.Dance.Theatre).
