For nearly three years, our communities and education systems have experienced compounding public health, economic, and environmental challenges that have pushed us to develop our resilience, grow our empathy, and reimagine our ways of learning and connecting.

While school districts across the country still grapple with the urgent challenges of shifted learning trajectories, teacher shortages, and rising student mental health challenges, CELF has taken inspiration from the tenacious teachers, students, and communities we work with as we continue to innovate and deliver meaningful services that are responsive to what teachers need now. In turn, we’ve seen teachers find community and become re-invigorated through our programs.

Will you join us by investing in the education of our planet’s future leaders with your year-end gift today?
2022 has been a year of renewal and new growth for CELF ...
  • With a strategic focus on attracting more inclusive and diverse cohorts, CELF has seen a 13% increase in the portion of US Title 1 schools served since 2020.

  • With the support of Tricon Energy, CELF engaged ten educators in Ghana with an in-person workshop. These educators then joined 16 US-based educators across six states virtually to explore cross-cultural civic science project opportunities.

  • We piloted a “CELF Scholar” initiative for high school students to gain exposure to green careers by working with CELF and engaging with CELF’s community of partners and supporters to cultivate more inclusive green career pathways.

  • We are growing our presence in California as part of the Climate Change and Environmental Justice Project led by Ten Strands, funded by the San Mateo County Office of Education and the California Department of Education.

  • We've engaged pre-service educators in developing Civic Science projects as they prepare for their careers, in partnership with the University of Houston, Clear Lake, and with support from the Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
This new chapter for CELF is filled with optimism and immense gratitude for the support of our donors and partners, the resilience of our staff, and the commitment of our educator community. Even amidst these trying times, CELF has engaged over 500 educators and 31,000 students in 2022 to date.

Your support helps CELF continue to deepen and extend our reach by providing teachers with resources, guidance, and experiential learning opportunities to equip young people to meet our shared challenges with hope, creativity, and systems thinking.
With gratitude and warm wishes for a joyful season,
Tara Stafford Ocansey (Executive Director) and the CELF Team
