SOCAL'S ECONOMY REMAINS RESILIENT:
  • SoCal has reclaimed 70% of the jobs it lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Wallace Walrod, OCBC’s Chief Economic Advisor, is optimistic about SoCal’s economic recovery noting that the region’s unemployment rate in Oct. was 6.9%, well below the high of 18.1% in May 2020. “By next year’s economic summit the region will likely have regained all of the jobs it lost,” Dr. Walrod said. Orange County continues to lead as the capital of Southern California demonstrating a faster and more robust economic recovery.   • How well did Orange County's state representatives support pro-business legislation this year? See their scores in the 2021 OCBC Legislative Scorecard! The Scorecard grades OC’s five State Senators and seven Assemblymembers on how their votes aligned with OCBC’s position on 16 important bills. TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR AGENCIES RECEIVES HIGH HONORS:
  • Congratulations to OCBC Board Member and Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) CEO, Samuel Johnson, on receiving the Honorable Ray LaHood Award (Man of the Year) from the Orange County Chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS-OC). Under Johnson's leadership 77% of TCA's management team is either a self-identified female and/or part of a minority group. On top of this, the Oso Parkway Bridge Project, a multiagency collaboration that connects the 241 Toll Road and Los Patrones Parkway, won the 2021 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format.
OCBC will be hosting the Orange County Workforce Development Board to discuss the no cost services they can provide to the business community, including recruitment services, workplace compliance and workforce training funds. The Workforce Board has the authority to reimburse up to 75% of an employee’s wages while they are receiving On-the-Job Training. These services are available to for-profit businesses, private non-profit organizations, and public sector employers.
