MESSAGE FROM KATIE

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! I am lifting up prayers for safe travels to all those who are traveling to see loved ones this week. As we enter into a very busy season of life, I wanted to give you some advice! The holidays can be a time of great joy and excitement, but the holidays are also a time where statistically more people experience stress. One of the ways I like to keep my spirits light during seasons of stress is by taking a few moments each day to list three things that I am grateful for. By doing so, this makes me intentionally go throughout my day to look for things to be grateful for. And we have so much to be thankful for; God has given us many blessings, even in the midst of hard seasons.

This week, as we each reflect upon all the things that we have been blessed with in our personal lives, I wanted to share the top three things that I am thankful for in the life of this church over this last year:

1.    I am thankful that we were able to confirm 6 of our 6th graders this Spring!

2.    At Breakthru 2023, we had 12 students “ring the bell” on their youth retreat. Ringing the bell at Timber Creek is a holy moment because it signifies that a student is accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and the student is committing to live a life as a disciple of Jesus. Praise the Lord!

3.    After what was a taxing season of discussion surrounding discernment and disaffiliation, the church is on the other side of said discussion. I am thankful for the resiliency and perseverance of each of you through the midst of such a season. I am grateful that we will enter Advent this year with that behind the church body. Your ability to persevere in hard seasons is a glimpse of the never failing hope that we have in Christ.

Gratefulness abounds. God is a provider, a sustainer. And He has given each of us many blessings. I pray this week, no matter what table you land at, that you are reminded of His goodness and kindness.

Blessings,

Katie

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

On November 5 our two clergy members, two lay delegates and chair of SPRC attended the district wide charge conference, hosted by St. Marks UMC in Brandon, MS. There we celebrated the Kingdom work done in and by those in both the East and West Jackson districts over the last year. We also discussed a litany of business items across the district. Ending with a time of worship and a message, our District Superintendent gave us the charge to continue to take Jesus to the Streets, for the glory of God the Father!

Many thanks to church members Sarah Shaw, Bob Gorman and Ruth Ann Gibson for representing our church well at this district event.
