Leader In Me School Feature

This month, Irving Elementary held its first student-led assembly to celebrate the school’s commitment to living the 7 Habits. During the assembly, students are recognized for living out the habit of the month and performing a skit to teach the next month’s habit.

Laura Meyer, Irving Elementary’s Lead Teacher says, “Our Student Lighthouse Team has really provided feedback and taken on the leadership of these assemblies.”

Introducing The Leader Valley Council

One key ingredient to Leader Valley’s ability to provide Leader in Me to our Cedar Valley students is our dedicated volunteers. This month, we’d like to feature our Leader Valley Council President, Matt Meyers.

Matt lives in Cedar Falls with his wife, Tara, and three daughters, Rachel, Ava, and Reagan. Matt graduated from UNI and has enjoyed working for John Deere Waterloo Works for 21 years.

When asked about the importance of Leader in Me, Matt says, “I truly believe our regional approach to Leader in Me is a competitive advantage for the entire Cedar Valley region! I have two kids who attended Leader in Me schools, and I have seen the positive impact the program has had on them from a parent’s perspective.

I have also seen the positive impact the program has had from an employer’s perspective as we have had multiple employees attend the Leadership Series courses offered by Leader Valley. Leader in Me does an excellent job of teaching our youngsters the employability and leadership skills that will benefit them, their future employers, and the communities these kids will someday work and raise families in.”

Thank you for leading our Leader Valley Council and for creating a competitive advantage for our students!
