I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
Psalm 57:2

I barely slept Sunday night.

I was exhausted and crawled into bed an hour earlier than I normally do.  I fell asleep, but dreams and nightmares filled my mind until I woke at 3:30 am.  My heart was racing.  I wondered what was going on, so I laid in bed, eyes wide open, and worked through the scenarios.  I wasn’t disturbed or stressed out, nor was I anticipating Monday’s work.  Was it a heart problem? I wondered.  Perhaps I was so tired my heart was crying out for rest? I tried closing my eyes, but no luck…I was wide awake.  I turned on a TV show on the history channel titled, Pawn Stars thinking maybe that would help me rest but that didn’t help either.  I found the items discussed on the show interesting and I found the history fascinating. I was more awake than ever!  I tried turning everything off, closed my eyes, and turned my pillow over.  The other side of the pillow was cool, but that didn’t work either.  “What in the world is wrong with me?!” I thought.

So I sat up and thought about the previous day, Sunday.  I had church all morning, followed by a meeting, followed by phone calls. I arrived home around 4:30.  I was tired, and I realized I didn’t drink much coffee that morning.  So I poured a large cup of joe, placed it in the microwave to heat up, and sipped the sweet nectar.  I drank another cup an hour later.

“That’s it!”  I literally said out loud.  “Coffee!”

Foolishly, I filled my stomach with caffeine in the evening and my heart and brain cried out resulting in a restless night.

Are you restless today?  There are times in our lives when our hearts begin to beat fast and our minds race.  Nightmares of the unknown of tomorrow keep us awake at night.  Our hearts and brains cry out, while God invites us to cry out to him.  The Psalmist David declared, “I cry out to the Most High to God…” David submits to God’s will.  David knows God’s plans for him are always good.  David knows God loves him, and although not immediately evident, God had a plan for him and he has a plan for you.

Jesus told us his purpose …

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” - Mark 10:45

“That’s it!”

Join us Sunday as we see twelve-year-old Jesus who was fulfilling his purpose. I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
