MONDAY MEMO
4th and 5th graders hiked to The Knoll in St. Johnsbury after spending the night at the Fairbanks Museum.
Greetings!

Wow, thank you to teachers and parent chaperones for all the time and energy you put into make a variety of wonderful spring field trip experiences possible. It's truly a joy to see that element of our program back after three years! See pictures linked below.

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
SUNSCREEN
We continue to spend as much time as we can outdoors, and encourage our K-8 students to apply sunscreen at midday, and/or before an outdoor activity. Students can bring their own or use supplies we have at school. If this is important to you, please make that expectation clear with your children. If you do not want us to use the variety of products we have at school, please let your child's teacher know directly. Preschool has a different set of parameters around topical applications, if you have any questions about that, please reach out to McKenna.
LIBRARY BOOKS
As we approach the end of the year we would like to collect and re-organize all of Riverside's library books as well as each teacher's classroom library. Please search your homes for any texts that might belong to us and return them.
TEACHER APPRECIATION MEALS
Twice a year, the parents organize an opportunity to give back to the teachers and staff at The Riverside School. These meals are to replace end of the year gifts and to celebrate! We are feeding 20 people from May 25-June 3, so it takes a village! If you like to cook, feel free to sign up for that, if you would rather spend some time setting up or cleaning up and chatting with everyone, that is another option. This year we also have the option of donating containers for the staff to take home leftovers in as well. Thank you so much for helping do this - Riverside staff looks forward to this every year. Sign Up at this link.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Friday, June 3, our last day of school, will be a fun day full of celebration of a successful year.
  • Bike to School: students are encouraged to ride their bikes to school, as long as they are: in groups of 6 or less, elementary students are accompanied by an adult, any "follow cars" don't impede traffic flow, and the riders don't cross into the cars' lane of travel. This tradition was started by students from Guildhall, so don't let distance or elevation impede you! Have fun, and don't worry, we won't count any tardies from those making their way on two-wheels.
  • Morning: fun field day activities in mixed age groups, mostly outdoors
  • Afternoon: Talent Show and partial Awards Ceremony (Arts, Athletics, Citizenship, Academic Improvement, and Chess to PK-7th grade winners. If your child will be a recipient of one of these awards we will let you know in advance with the exact timing and options to view or attend).
  • Dismissal: It is a full day, with regular dismissal times at 3:00/3:30, and the Afterschool/Extended Day programs will run. Please email Sean or Heather if your child will attend, so that they can plan accordingly for this unique day.
PK-8 GRADUATION
Our 41st graduation ceremony will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 4. This is an event to honor the hard work and achievements of all our Preschool-8th grade students, as well as the culture of our kind and generous community that makes their success possible. The ceremony, which includes students processing through the cedars, choral performances from the porch of the house, a guest speaker, 8th grade speakers, awards for students of all ages and a presentation of diplomas to the Class of 2022 is meaningful to all of us. That day is counted as school day and we hope that every student will attend with some members of their family.

The ceremony will be surrounded by student artwork on display and followed by a potluck lunch. We ask all families to bring a salad or main course dish to share. Please remember a serving utensil and mark all your personal items with your name. Please also plan to list the ingredients, we will have markers and cards available if necessary. Riverside will be providing drinks and a cake. Thank you to the 7th grade parents who will be setting up the potluck, so you can simply hand your dish to one of them in the barn when you arrive for the ceremony.
CHESS CLUB
Middle School Chess Club will meet for the last time this week, 3:45-4:45.
MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB
MTB club this week will be held on Thursday for both rides. The beginner ride will again start at East Burke Sports and go from 3:45-4:45. The advanced ride will meet at the East Haven lot at 4:00, and plan to ride until 5:30 or so. Reach out to Sean or Marie if you have questions or need to coordinate transportation. New riders are always welcome!
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
  • PreK-K Day Camp at Riverside - Marie & McKenna are hosting Friday summer camp sessions twice a month from 8am-2:30pm. Children will make art, create music, identify plants, explore trails, tend the garden, make recipes using ingredients from the garden and much more! With the exception of thunderstorms or other extreme weather, we will spend all our time outdoors. Children need to come prepared with weather appropriate clothing and nutritious meals. Each day will begin on the preschool playground.
