MIDYEAR AWARD APPLICATIONS DUE NOW
|
|
Clubs may submit applications for the District's Midyear Awards through Dec. 1. Midyear awards recognize achievements for the 2021-2022 Kiwanis Year. (These are separate awards from the Governor's Distinguished Awards)
Exemplary Club Award: Honors clubs in our District that accomplish our mission: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. There are 11 criteria for this award, and a club must meet at least eight to qualify.
Outstanding Secretary Award: Recognizes a club secretary for his/her exemplary service to the Kiwanis club. Secretaries must meet at least eight of the 10 criteria to qualify.
Fellowship/Interclub Award: Recognizes a Kiwanis club that exemplifies the meaning of interacting and having fellowship with Kiwanians, which includes SLP clubs. Visiting other clubs improves a club by providing the experience of Kiwanians to interact and share with each other, to provide a practical means to form enduring friendships to render service, to build better communities and to learn more about our purpose, goals and objectives. There are four levels of interclub awards: Coral – Clubs with less than 21 members; Emerald – Clubs with 21-30 members; Ruby – Clubs with 31-60 members; and Diamond – Clubs with 61 or more members.
For more information and application forms,
on the District website.
Awards will be announced Feb. 16 during a virtual
Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis Midyear Achievement Celebration.

KEY LEADER FOCUSES ON SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE
Submitted by Sonia Almodovar and Ron Petsch
|
|
Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Key Leader was held at Camp Carol Joy Holling near Ashland, Nebraska on Oct. 28 through 30. There were 22 amazing leaders who attended and furthered their leadership skill and confidence during this event.
The program was packed with introductory games, meeting new people, learning about service leadership, laughter and excitement. During the two-day event, focus was put on personal integrity, personal growth, communication, listening, self-awareness, personality styles and taking risks.
With excitement in their hearts and a little fear in their eyes, the students were ready to take on the challenge course. Three teams worked together and were dependent on each other to finish each section of the challenge. All the teams successfully made it through the 10-stage course and ended with a zip line ride to get safely back to the ground. This was followed by dinner, learning about self-respect and building community. A bonfire, smores and a movie outdoors completed the Saturday night activities.
A graduation ceremony and a video of the weekend’s activities was shown Sunday morning to complete the Key Leader experience.

FOUNDATION APPROVES FOUR GRANTS
Submitted by District Foundation President Jody Melcher
The Nebraska-Iowa District Foundation Board met on Oct. 12 to approve grants and take care of other business. We are so excited to have several new members on our board. We filled seven positions in divisions, five of which hadn’t had a board member for a few years. Divisions still needing a Foundation board trustee are 2, 4, 5,.10, 12, 15, 18. 25. If you are a member in one of these divisions and would like to join our Board, please contact me at peptuck@midiowa.net for more information.
We approved four grants at this meeting:
- West Omaha Diamond K for winter clothing for elementary students
- Florence Kiwanis for an Anti-Cyberbullying program
- Capital City Key Club for materials to make fleece blankets
- Capital City Key Club for needs at Spartan Village
These are great projects! It’s good to see applications from an SLP. They are part of our Kiwanis Family and are eligible for grants.
Remember that we have four grant cycles. The due dates are Dec. 1, March 1, June 1, and Sept. 1. Grants are approved the month after they are due. Applications and information are on the Nebraska-Iowa District website under Kiwanis Foundations.
Total club gifts to the District Foundation for the 2021-2022 year were $16,979. Those donations came from 73 clubs. Thank you for your generosity! I don’t have information on individual gifts.
Letters to clubs who had Camp OK Endowments will be going out soon. You will need to decide if you want your original investment back, or if you want it to go into the General Endowment Fund of the District Foundation. Funding for grants comes from the General Endowment Fund.
Thanks for all you do your children and families.
