Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. -Colossians 3:1-2

Not long ago, I was on the phone while getting things ready for the day. Packing my computer, my bag, and talking to the boys before school. I had been running around getting ready before driving the carpool, but I sat on the chair to put on my shoes, and I was disturbed. As I looked at my two feet I saw one foot covered nicely with a black sock, the other was naked. In my hurried morning, I forgot to put on one of my socks! Life’s tasks distracted me from focusing on the simple act of putting a sock on each foot. Laugh with me, laugh at me I won’t be offended, but my guess is that there are times in your life when you lose focus too. One sock on two feet is funny, but we all know the reality of the danger of distractions in our lives. Satan capitalizes on distractions and uses the chaos and confusion of life, to shift our focus from Jesus to ourselves.

When we focus inward on ourselves, Jesus becomes blurry. The world will tell you to focus on you, to take care of you and everything will be just fine. Is it working? The mental health state of our nation proves it is not. We turn inward on ourselves and that is exactly what Satan wants. An identity crisis.

Rev. Samual Schuldheisz states,

“Satan loves to tempt the Christian inward upon ourselves so that we do not fear, love, and trust in God above all things. The devil tempts us to shift our eyes from Christ crucified to me, myself, and I.”

The Apostle Paul encourages his readers to focus not on themselves or the things of the world, but on Christ. Paul says to set our hearts and minds on things above “where Christ is.” When we focus on Christ we see who he really is, and who we are in him.

See you Sunday as we focus on Jesus who is tempted by Satan but doesn't budge an inch. I can't wait!

PS: I just looked down, sure enough, I have two socks on today!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
