Great Turnouts
· We had a great response to the first Porsches and Pints event at the Red Bus Brewing Company. A number of members brought their dogs (big and small) to enjoy the early evening event. And a lot of the black t-shirts were sold. Thanks to John Leet for setting up these events for the year (the 3rd Thursday of the month).
· And then about 50 people showed up for Matt Menning’s Spring Fling on a beautiful Saturday morning at Kathrin’s Biergarten in Rocklin. I talked with Keith McMahan (PCA member since 1959) and Mary Dachauer for a few minutes. Also had the chance to roam around the outdoor patio to converse with several new members as well. Thanks Matt for this activity. And we also had several dogs at this event as well.
Porsche Parade
· Phase II – opens Wednesday, April 5th at 9 am
· This will be where entrants can sign up for the various competitive (and non-competitive) events as well as the banquets.
· You can get a preview of what to expect in the registration process by going to the Porsche Parade website at porscheparade.org, then click on the “Registration” tab, then “Phase II” and peruse the “Step-by-Step Parade Phase II Registration Guide.” It is rather large to download but is very complete………highly recommended.

· Things are starting to happen. Porsche (as in Germany) has provided several “Town Hall” meetings and presentations over the past several weeks that have emphasized various events in Europe as well as in the United States.
· Rennsport Reunion 7 at the end of September in Monterey will be the big one for the United States.
· Expect to see the 60th anniversary celebration of the 911 in the fall.
· And of course expect Porsche Rocklin to have a 75th anniversary activity sometime this summer.
In Passing – Two Legends
· SVR member Fred Myeron recently passed. Fred joined PCA in 1966. Fred’s wife Nancy, called my wife (they had worked in the same office many years ago) with the news. Fred had a red Speedster (1958) that most members have never seen. He was very involved with SCCA as a Grid Steward (that all white outfit caught your eye at the tracks).
· Another Speedster owner and racer, Wyn Robertson, also passed recently. Wyn and wife Linda moved to Oregon many years ago. Wyn owned Continental Auto Service over on Del Paso Blvd. for many years before moving to the Salem, Oregon area.
· Several SVR members have sent me emails about the loss of these two legends. Dwight Mitchell (who will be at CRAB 38) says that he has a few stories to share with us about these two legends.
CRAB 38
· Almost 200 people signed up.
· Don’t miss this Premier Porsche Weekender.
· Registration is open until April 15th.
San Simeon Tour
· Mike Willis reports that people have started to sign up for the May tour. (ed. note filling up, a few spots left)
· You will need to make your own hotel reservations and reservations for any tour of Hearst Castle.
Name Badge
· Remember to wear your name badge at events.
Concours Clinic and Judging School
· Short notice but this a Zone 7 event that covers a ZOOM presentation on Sunday, April 16th and then a ‘hands-on’ session at your choice of 3 different locations and dates in Northern California (one of which is at SVR member Kim Nelson’s residence on May 27th).
· Registration closes real soon --- like April 13th or so
· Cost is $15 for the school. There is a separate $12 per person charge for the ‘hands-on’ session at Kim’s place because you get some breakfast goodies and lunch.
TSD Rally Coming
· Just a heads up that we have a TSD Rally coming up on Sunday, May 27th chaired by Darrel Huckabay. It will be using the RICHTA system for timing and scoring (same as the one for CRAB 38 and Parade).
· More details coming.
SVR Ladies Events? The Porschettes?
· Our two new New Member Group Chairs, Gail Hubbard and Susan Green are planning for a number of Ladies Events.
· An initial lunch gathering is targeted for June 1st. More details to come.

· Antonino Felix da Costa finished the San Paulo race in 4th place after starting 2nd on the grid. With his 4th place finish, da Costa is now 5th in the overall drivers’ standings.
· Series leader and Porsche Tag Heuer Team driver Pascal Wehrlein finished 7th after starting in 18th place!
· The next two races are being held in Berlin on April 22nd and 23rd and can be seen live on the CBS Sports Network.

Apparently stung by the perception of sales being siphoned by big, front-engined, two-door coupes from Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, and Maserati, Porsche AG has officially teased the much-rumored return of the 928. Speaking on conditions of anonymity, a Porsche AG spokesperson confirmed that, in a nod to the legendary big coupe that was produced by Porsche from 1978-1995, the new car will be called the 998, and it will be produced with a single powertrain option ----the 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, combined with the 134-horsepower electric motor, that currently powers the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
ed. This may have something to do with April 1st.

March was a very active month! In addition to the monthly first Saturday breakfast, we had the Autocross School, which introduced 30 new drivers to the sport. Following the school, the first autocross event was very wet, but gave drivers a chance to test their skills on a low-traction surface.
The Rally school in Fremont was a huge success, with over 25 attendees.
On the Social side, our first Porsches and Pints event had over 70 attendees at Red Bus Brewing, and the Spring Fling hosted by the Mennings at Katherines Biergarten had about 40 cars and 55 people attending.
April has even more in store, with the next Porsches and Pints at SacYard Public House with parking at Bertolucci's across the street. And, our premier event: CRAB38 at the California Auto Museum is not to be missed. The month wraps up with the SVR Autocross event that is part of the Zone 7 Series.
We have been looking to get some family-oriented events on the calendar, and have ideas for this but need a volunteer to chair the events. If you would be interested, please reach out to me!
Please also let me know if you have another type of event in mind and we can work together to include in our SVR Event Calendar. Also let me know of any update or change to an event listed below.

CRAB Road Tour Route Finalized
Matt Menning and Rick Duste have finalized the route for the CRAB 38 Saturday Tour.
Over 70 cars will depart from Davis and proceed through the Sacramento Delta passing windmills and the Voice of America radio tower en-route to the halfway stop at the Rio Vista Airport. After a short break, the groups will continue on, first crossing the Helen Madere Memorial Rio Vista Bridge before turning north on River Road. Traversing the Sacramento River levy roads the group will cross one of the first of two drawbridges to the west side of the river at Isleton, passing wineries and vineyards before crossing back to the east side at the Paintersville Bridge.
Arriving at Freeport, we take a quick jog east to join Interstate 5 for a short leg to our final destination.
Lunch will be provided by tour sponsor Detail Maniac at their facility in Sacramento where you will have time to see some of their handy work, socialize with friends, meet new friends, and check out each other’s rides. A fun time should be had by all.

SVR Valentines Dinner
By Gregg & Cindee Peart
Valentine’s Eve Dinner On February 13 PCA-SVR had a wonderful Italian dinner to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We had a number of yummy dishes to choose from as well as salad and dessert.
Palermo Ristaurante is a family owned longtime favorite in Elk Grove. We had the restaurant to ourselves which gave everyone an opportunity for a fun cocktail hour before dinner. Several newer members came to the event including 1st event ever attendees Ron King and Anne Frankel as well as new/old members Louise and Wayne Sauseda. So happy to have them back. The best we could decide on they were members in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Ron and Anne thank you for making this your 1st event.
We had tremendous help from several people. Sally Boeck made the yummy and beautiful caramels for our Valentine’s treat. Linda Bradford did her lovely magic to make our tables look so special for our Valentines celebration.
The family at Palermo allowed us to have this wonderful event on the one day a week they have as a day off. So thank you to all.
As things were winding down for the evening I saw several people ordering take out of an item they did not try. Nice! Also several people were thanking Gino directly and telling him they would like to do this again. So, maybe next year?

2023 SVR - Porsche Rocklin Autocross School Celebrates 12 years!
By Collin Fat

The autocross program held its first session of a two-day course at Porsche of Rocklin on March 12th. For the 12th consecutive year, the school was sold out with several SVR members not able to get into the class. The school was the idea of the dedicated members on the SVR autocross team to bring the sport of autocrossing to more members and to increase participation in the program. I think that over the past 12 years, that our mission was accomplished as the current autocross program is one of the most successful in Zone 7 with an average of nearly 50 drivers competing at each event.
The students of the class of 2023 represented one significant difference from years past. In total there were 9 ladies that signed up representing a whopping 30% of the attendees. Thank you, ladies, for your interest! Also in attendance were several grandchildren and children of members who just got their driver’s licenses and who’s dads or granddads thought it would be a good idea if they had more driver training. Our members are not getting any younger, and I think it is fabulous to not only see more ladies participate but the younger generation as well.

|
|
|
The ground school segment of the 2-day autocross took place in the service bay of the Porsche Rocklin dealership. There were a total of 32 students participating. AX team members presenting instruction included, Matt Deter, Greg Zajic, Bob Peake and myself.
The dealership not only provided pastries and coffee to get the morning started, but a fabulous, boxed lunch catered by Panera Bread. A big shout out to Porsche Rocklin for their continued support.
One of the highlights of the morning was when general manager, Mark Myers, unveiled Porsche Rocklin’s entry into Porsche’s restoration competition - a late 1980’s model 944. Porsche Rocklin’s Rob Paine is in charge of the restoration project and has high aspirations of improving on their finish over the past few years.
Mark also mentioned that the dealership is opening a new location on Auburn Blvd near Howe and that the dealership is scheduled to open as early as October of this year. In addition, the new dealership will be a designated CLASSIC service center servicing Porsche’s from the air- cooled generation.
|
|
|
|
The ground school segment covered such topics as 1) what is an autocross, 2) how to prepare for your first event, 3) car control subjects such as understeer and oversteer, 4) electronic features on newer Porsche such as PASM, PDDC, ABS, Sport Mode, PSE, and more.
The students went to Thunderhill Raceway Park for day two of the class and and practiced many exercises aimed at teaching them car control basics.
The ended with running a full autocross and getting timed.
If you were unable to attend the annual school, all novices and members are invited to attend any of the remaining 8 events scheduled for 2023.
For more information go the www.svr-pca.org and checkout the autocross calendar for upcoming events.
ed. note It was fun to come out of retirement and be a part of this school. From my perspective everyone had a good time and learned more about autocrossing and working the course.
Thank you autox team for your hard work in continue to make autrossing a part of SVR.

If you didn't make it out for SVR's Spring Fling, you missed a great lil gathering of people and Porsches.
On Saturday March 25th, we met at Kathrin's Biergarten in Rocklin for lunch and bring our beloved Porsches together. Every spot in the car corral was taken in no time at all. Much of the surrounding parking lot was loaded with the overflow. Approximately 40 cars and 55 people attended. At least 5 cars in attendance were non PCA members. A member of the Diablo Region also joined us. At least four SVR Board of Directors joined in the fun.
Terrance from Signature Wheel (one of our Drifter advertisers) was also in attendance with his stunning 2023 992 GT3 in Gentian Blue Metallic and custom wheels.

We were granted a slice of beautiful weather that day. The choices of premium German beer were amazing as always. The servers were quite busy taking orders and getting our plates of savory German food to our tables. The socializing was in full swing. I can confidently say that the PCA slogan remains strong. “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people”. I received many inquiries on this becoming an annual event. I hope it will be !
A big thanks goes out to Kathrin's Biergarten for the venue and her crew for working hard to serve us all.
