Stewardship Message

Ministry Feature: Pastoral Care

As a part of our 2024 Stewardship campaign, Led by the Spirit to Make a Difference in 2024, this week's featured ministry area is Pastoral Care.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” — The Gospel According to John

In the beginning was the intimate conversation - of God’s love and hope for each other. The ministry of Pastoral Care at St. Michael's is an imitation of Jesus' care for people. Led by a team of 12 lay and clergy, we provide support through: Care Team Members (20), one-on-one spiritual care visits (~10 visits per month), home communion (6 Lay Eucharistic Visitor teams for 12 people who are unable to come to church), prayer offerings (more than 85 people prayed for every week), Caregivers Support group (12 participants), Widows Group (19 participants), Daughters of the King (12 members), bereavement literature after a death (16 recipients), mental health & suicide prevention counseling and referrals, Rite of Reconciliation, and meal deliveries … all walking beside one another and providing a compassionaduring difficult times. Our clergy are available for prayer and pastoral care for all sorts of situations. People who are experiencing a crisis, have been admitted to the hospital, or just need some Christian council and direction are always welcome to call or email and make arrangements to visit with a priest.

We ask that you please prayerfully complete the 2024 pledge cards mailed to your home on or before next Sunday, November 19. To learn more and to make a pledge online, click below.

Adopt-a-Nativity

November 26, 9:15 AM

Did you know that over 800 years ago, St. Francis of Assisi created the first ever recorded nativity scene to help children understand the true meaning of Christmas? Today, the tradition of setting up nativity scenes arouses great awe and touches our hearts as we relive the wondrous story of God lowering himself to become flesh for us and our salvation. This Advent we are offering an opportunity to be moved in a new and different way toward the manger by adopting a nativity. Those interested in participating should bring a nativity set to church between November 19 and November 26. For the Sunday Forum on November 26, Rev. Matt will share more about the history and meaning of the nativity, and then you will have an opportunity to select a nativity set to adopt and enjoy throughout Advent.

Thank You from Laura DiSilverio

Dear St. Michael's family,

Thank you, thank you for your love, prayers, cards, texts, gifts, and support during my medical treatment in Pittsburgh. I will send thank you notes, but I wasn't able to keep good track of who sent what in the chaos of the hospital. Also, I know there are dozens of people who have been praying for me since my original diagnosis five years ago, and I want to make sure you all know how amazingly grateful Tom and I are. We are all members of Christ's one body and I truly felt the miraculous nature of that connection in the past month. When one member is weak, the rest of the body, with the grace of God, nourishes, loves, heals, and carries it forward. You have carried and continue to carry me and my family. We are so blessed to be part of this loving, spirit-filled, and practical community.

Thank you,

Laura DiSilverio
