NO SHABBAT SERVICE TONIGHT...
but next week, we will have a very different kind of Shabbat service. See details below.

Today is the fifth day of the Omer. Do you want to know what that means, and why it matters? Basically, it's a way of observing the time between Passover and Shavuot as a period of heightened introspection. Here's a 3-1/2 minute video that explains everything.
|
In addition to this Jewish mindfulness practice, you can enjoy a curated playlist of contemplative, prayerful songs to accompany you on this spiritual journey. And Aryae's "Omer Counter" is a nice resource. Below are some other resources you might find helpful in the coming weeks leading up to Shavuot on June 1.

| | PHOTOS AND VIDEOS FROM OUR PASSOVER SEDER | This year's seder was held in the spacious community center at Senior Coastsiders in HMB. We had a crowd of about 100 seder participants which included an enthusiastic ensemble, several families, and lots of young people. It was a fun and meaningful celebration for all. | There were also prompts and discussions on serious subjects that included immigration, antisemitism, authoritarianism, and a remembrance of the hostages who are not yet free. | One participant described the seder as "spectacular." You could feel the energy in the room. | | Just listen to the short clips below from "Those Were the Plagues" and "Miriam's Song". | | We send out a big "thank you" to all the volunteers who made the event a great success! | |

Jewish university presidents: Trump is exploiting campus antisemitism, not fighting it
There’s one thing that unites the university presidents that have so far prominently stood up against President Donald Trump’s ongoing assault on higher education: They’re Jewish. Start with Harvard University’s president, Alan Garber, who on Monday issued the most forceful rebuke yet to Trump’s efforts to establish federal control over campuses.
In a letter to students, faculty and staff, Garber wrote that Harvard would reject the “unprecedented demands” that the federal government had made, under the guise of combating antisemitism on Harvard’s campus, for the university to avoid the freezing of up to $9 billion in federal grants and loans. “The University,” Garber wrote, “will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights.” [Read the article here.]
