Principal's Corner
Manners are something that are sometimes undervalued in our society, but can greatly benefit our school and families. Good manners provide order and efficiency. They encourage kindness and respect. Manners help us in our Christian duty to think of others before ourselves, treating them like Christ. Some basic manners that even the youngest children can learn include using "please" and "thank you," looking someone in the eye when speaking to them, and using the proper form of address such as "Mr." or "Mrs." toward an adult. As kids grow older, they can learn table manners, firm handshakes, greeting a stranger, proper posture, and responding to an adult with "Yes Ma'am" or "Yes Sir." These seemingly simple gestures can make a great difference in the culture of our home and school. The great American educator, Horace Mann, once said, "Manners easily and rapidly mature into morals."

Thank You Mrs. Ramos!!
We'd like to take a moment to recognize Patti Ramos, mom of Jacob in 1st grade, for her amazing spirit and dedication to helping us all grow in our faith each and every week through our "Comet Catechesis" section of this newsletter. In addition to being a wonderfully involved and dedicated parent, Patti has kept us on track through The Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz series and always gives us wonderful lessons on the life of the Saints and the life of our amazing, universal Church. Thank you Patti for being such a wonderful light in our Comet Community and helping us all grow closer to Christ!

OKTOBERFEST Needs YOU!
The St. Benedict Oktoberfest is one of RVA's favorite 'fests each and every year! Making this event a great success for the 50,000 guests it welcomes annually, takes the leadership and hard work of a dedicated group of volunteers. The Oktoberfest Committee is seeking Committee members for the following important areas:

  • Children's Area Lead
  • Oktoberfest Committee Secretary
  • Food Concessions Support Leads (to support Lead)
  • Set Up & Decorations Lead

If you love our Oktoberfest and are willing to serve in a bigger role for this vital event for our school and parish communities, please email today Gretchen Ridgely at gridgely@saintbenedictschool.org. We need you!
The St. Benedict Rosary Society
The purpose of the St. Benedict Catholic School Rosary Society is threefold: to encourage devotion to Our Lady; to promote the sanctity of its members; and to pray for the intentions of the entire SBCS family. Membership is open to all students, staff, and families, and there are only two requirements: praying a daily Memorare and a weekly Rosary for the intentions submitted to the society. If you or members of your family would like to take part, please fill out the short form here.
Nurses Corner
It has been a challenging year in some ways, however, it’s been a blessing that we have been able to attend in-person all year!

You will find any medical forms in your registration packet that each student receives. Please look over all those papers and fill out any medication forms which will be needed for next year if in your packets. All forms, including the form you must complete for your child to have medication administered at the school, can be found on our website HERE.

If there are any questions please do not hesitate to reach out. Any questions email dlawrence@saintbenedictschool.org.

There are also a few requirements for rising 7th graders, thus please check with your provider for current immunizations. Each rising 7th grade student will need a current physical and that form has also been provided for you to take to the physician's office when you schedule the physical.

We also need to have a current action plan for any students with medical diagnosis for next year. Each year these have to be reviewed with the provider's signature.

One last thing. If you have any medication in the clinic it must be picked up BY THE PARENT BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. Please make arrangements with the Clinic.

Thank you for your understanding!
