Baby Bag Project from Ohio University’s GHHS chapter helps support local mothers and their babies
Dr. Alicia Rogers and her fellow GHHS leadership team members Drs. Ziyue Wang and Saron Checkole designed this GHHS chapter project to address the state's high infant mortality and health inequities through baby supplies and personal stories. They modeled the Ohio Baby Bag Project after a Finnish government program that started in the late 1930s to deliver free baby boxes to expectant mothers. Replacing the boxes with bags, this GHHS chapter, with the help of volunteers and the support of a Gold grant, was able to distribute 21 baby bags through partner organizations.

This Annual Report is a time capsule of two of the most historic, shattering years of our lives. The report details the work of the Gold Foundation in the dual pandemics, of COVID-19 and racism, and how we found new ways to strengthen connections in a trying time. As a small nonprofit that champions humanism in healthcare, these two years were an essential time for our mission.

Join the GHHS 20th Anniversary Campaign and help us raise $20,000 to support this wonderful honor society
The Gold Humanism Honor Society began in 2002 with chapters at 3 medical schools. Many people were skeptical. An honor society that recognizes compassion and human connection, not grades and test scores? Over the years, GHHS helped schools shift to recognizing how vital these skills are. Today, there are 180 chapters with more than 45,000 members who are true leaders of humanism. We are kicking off a GHHS 20th Anniversary Campaign to support GHHS now and in the years to come. You can join by giving here.

We are hoping to raise $20,000 or more. Please help us soar past this goal! Any amount is appreciated. Consider giving $20 to mark the 20 years. Donate $200, and we will send you a GHHS 20th Anniversary mug with your name on it. Thank you!

Golden Glimmer: Share your “Aha” moment
The Gold Humanism Honor Society put out a call as its Golden Glimmer #11 for GHHS members and all those interested in healthcare to share their “aha” moments: When was the moment you realized that medicine was more than simply science, but also intertwined with philosophy and humanity?

"That was my aha moment: That advocacy for provider wellness and safety can make a medical institution work more harmoniously and in the end benefit the community that we served. I have used that lesson for the next 41 years."

-Michael Hirsh, MD
Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Surgeon-in-Chief
UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center
Assistant Vice Provost for Health and Wellness Promotion
