Dear Friends,

We are so proud and grateful that together, we raised $736,000 in our 22nd Annual Guardians of the Children Luncheon on November 23. Thank you to our dedicated luncheon committee for all of your hard work, to our sponsors for supporting us, and our incredible community members for joining us as we help make miracles happen!

We hope you enjoy this December newsletter, where we include a history of Holtz Children’s Hospital and celebrate where we are today. We encourage all of you this holiday season to participate in our Holiday Toy Drive and bring joy to our youngest patients being cared for at Holtz Children’s Hospital.

We’d like to thank everyone in our community who supported us so generously in our best Give Miami Day yet, where we raised $132,500 in 24 hours! Every dollar counts, and your donations are the ultimate investment in the health of our community. Our team at Jackson Health Foundation is proud to be a part of improving access to health care in South Florida as we look forward to the future!

In this season of giving, we hope you consider Jackson. Keep an eye out for our year end campaign letter in your mailbox or inbox. We invite you to make a donation by clicking here. We thank you in advance and hope you have a lovely holiday season!

With sincere thanks,

Holtz Children’s Hospital:
Expert Pediatric Care Throughout the Years
Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is a national leader in pediatric medical specialties, including nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology and neonatology. Holtz Children’s is the eighth in the nation and first in Florida to become an Accredited Pediatric Heart Failure Institute by The Healthcare Colloquium.
Focused on delivering expert medical care in a family-centered environment, our multidisciplinary team treats children from birth. Whether a child needs routine medical care or visits us for a complex illness, we are ready with highly skilled physicians and nurses to care for your child. We are home to a large pediatric intensive care unit, which cares for children with a variety of illnesses, including those with advanced heart conditions as well as children undergoing treatment for cancer and blood disorders. More than 10,000 children are admitted to Holtz Children’s Hospital annually.

As demand for our services continues to grow, we have embarked upon a meaningful renovation of our current space to meet the need of our community. In the upcoming years, Holtz Children’s Hospital leadership will focus on renovating inpatient units, particularly those serving our cardiac and organ transplant patients. Leveraging new technology and human capital in a renovated physical plant allows us to streamline the delivery of care and improve patient safety and outcomes.

Another critical component of our growth will be the construction of an ambulatory care center. Designed to house and consolidate outpatient services from specialists and subspecialists. This dedicated space facilitates an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to care for children with complex medical conditions.

Finally, our maternal-fetal program continues to grow. Jackson Health System is staffed with experts in prenatal diagnosis and the treatment of complex fetal conditions. Most often, fetal care results from the baby’s life being at risk. Evidence shows that improved collaboration between pediatric specialists and obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy teams results in better outcomes when a prenatal fetal diagnosis is made.

Holtz Children’s Hospital owes its name to a landmark gift from the Fana Holtz Foundation. In the spirit of this gift, we are dedicated to providing the best medical care for all children regardless of their ability to pay. Jackson Health System and Jackson Health Foundation are extremely grateful for the continuous and generous support the Holtz Family and the Fana Holtz Foundation bestow upon us.
Bring Joy to a Child This Season by Joining Our Holiday Toy Drive!
Did you know that you can send a gift to the pediatric patients? Toys and gifts help our pediatric patients enormously while they are in the hospital, especially since COVID restrictions have limited their ability to visit our playrooms.

Easily browse through the comprehensive listing of our patients’ favorite toys and send cheer right to their door. Check it out here!

You can also support the children in our health system by making a financial contribution to our Holiday Toy Drive, which allows us to purchase highly requested items for our pediatric patients. To make a secure donation online, please click here to donate and make a difference today!

Last, but certainly not least, you can also donate new and unwrapped toys or gift cards to spread the joy of the holidays. Contact Gradon.Hadaway@jhfmiami.org for more details or to schedule a drop-off.

Educational Foundation of America
The Educational Foundation of America (EFA) is a family foundation supporting nonprofit organizations working in the arts, the environment, democracy, food security, and reproductive health and justice.
We are so grateful for their recent gift of $40,000 to Holtz Children’s Hospital, and to have EFA as one of Jackson Health Foundation’s strong supporters.

Founded in 1959, EFA was created to continue the lifelong philanthropic commitment of its founders, Richard Prentice Ettinger, JD, and his wife Elsie P. Ettinger. Today, EFA’s Board of Directors is composed of members of the third and fourth generations of the family, and their Adjunct Committee serves as an arena for members of the family new to the Foundation to explore and advance our philanthropic practices.

Thank you EFA for being part of our family!
