Several CHHE members traveled to Chicago for the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES) Annual Meeting

Nadine Kotlarz, Susie Proctor, Katy May and Lacey Brown presented their research under this year’s theme of "Connecting Communities & Science through Addressing Environmental Exposures", with topics ranging from health effects of PFAS exposure in homes to using a mixed methods approach to evaluate report back efforts. Joining the CHHE team for day 1 of the meeting was Catrina Floyd, Interim Director of Partnership Effort for the Advancement of Children’s Health (PEACH). Catrina was one of many community representatives in attendance who helped to highlight the vital role that exposure science plays in the daily lives of exposed communities. It was a great opportunity to listen and learn from researchers, students, and community leaders and foster important conversations about how scientists can help move the needle on public health initiatives.

Dr. Fred Wright, co-director of the Integrative Health Sciences Facility Core served on two panels for the US EPA In July-August 2023

Dr. Wright provided a review of the proposed EPA Transcriptomic Assessment Product (ETAP) and Value of Information (VOI) analysis. ETAP is a proposed ORD assessment product that utilizes a standardized short-term in vivo study design and data analysis procedures to develop transcriptomic-based reference values for data poor chemicals. The VOI is used to weigh the public health and economic trade-offs associated with the timeliness, uncertainty, and is proposed to be applied to costs associated with the ETAP.

Dr. Cathrine Hoyo gave a seminar at Columbia on September 7 as part of our Center to Center collaboration

Dr. Hoyo's talk was entitled 'Aberrant DNA Methylation of Imprint Control Regions and Alzheimer's Disease in Humans'. This lecture covered three topics--including 1) ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in environmental contaminants and Alzheimer's disease, 2) environmental contaminants and epigenetic response of imprint control regions (ICRs), and 3) how we can leverage ICR differential methylation to for early identification of Alzheimer's disease susceptibility earlier during the life course.

Find out Friday, "CHHE Data Management Support: Help, Training, and NIH Compliance"

Nathan Dunn, new CHHE Data Manager, gave a brief overview of on how he can assist you in all phases of the research data life cycle which includes Data Management Plans, understanding and maintaining compliance with funding agency guidelines (NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy), maintaining data organization best practices, and accessing university data storage resources.
