The requirements for obtaining building permits for original construction, additions, renovations, and repairs are determined by county and/or municipal building inspection offices. These requirements can be complex, may change over time, and may be different from one county/city to another. Brokers are not expected to know or remember all of the requirements for obtaining building permits. However, brokers have a duty to disclose material facts, and part of fulfilling that duty is verifying information – including permitted or non-permitted changes.

Government Affairs Update

Angie Hedgepeth, Government Affairs Director for the Association, attends all the local meetings each month, as well as NAR® and NCAR® meetings, and keeps members abreast of the multiple issues being addressed in local, state, and national government. She prepares reports on the meetings she attends and they are included in the weekly "Government Affairs Update". View More Posts


She recently released her fifth issue of the GADZETTE which you can read by clicking here. It chronicles the recent government updates, RPAC wins, and a presidentially inspired recipe.

Great Working Lunch with NC Representative Marvin Lucas and his NEW NCR® State Political Coordinator LaDerek Green and LPR® Legislative Chair Mark Dow

The working group received input from Representative Lucas on his 2023 goals and long-term objectives. His top priorities are county-wide water & sewer, transportation, housing, and industry. After the meeting, Green stated, "Our goal is to align your priorities with Longleaf Pine Association and NC Realtors 2023-2024 Tactical Plans to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. As your S.P.C., I will serve as your champion for all Real Estate related initiatives you consider key and essential for Cumberland County Residents. Again, it was an honor meeting you and we are excited for the future."

City of Fayetteville Seeking Applications for Boards and Commissions

The City of Fayetteville is currently seeking residents to help fill vacancies for the following boards and commissions: 

  • Airport Commission – 5 Vacancies 
  • Community Police Advisory Board – 6 Vacancies 
  • Fair Housing Board – 1 Vacancy 
  • Fayetteville Advisory Committee on Transit (FACT) – 2 Vacancies 
  • Fayetteville City Planning Commission – 4 Vacancies 
  • Fayetteville City Zoning Commission – 1 Vacancy 
  • Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission – 2 Vacancies 
  • Historic Resources Commission – 4 Vacancies 
  • Joint City and County Appearance Commission – 1 Vacancy 
  • Joint Fayetteville Cumberland County Senior Citizen Advisory Board – 2 Vacancies 
  • Liner Park, Inc. – 3 Vacancies 
  • Millennial Commission – 4 Vacancies

Boards and commissions are a great way for residents to engage in their community and continue to build a greater Fayetteville. Volunteers who are appointed to the boards and commissions by City Council serve as the link that connects residents to its governing body and serve as advisors that help shape the policies and programs of Fayetteville. 


Applicants can apply now through January 31, 2023, at Fayettevillenc.gov/boards. All qualified applications will be presented to the Appointments Committee in February. City Council will then approve the recommended applicants at a regular meeting in March 2023.

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of public participation in good governance and invites County residents to apply to serve on the County’s citizen advisory boards.
