Federal Corporate Tax Law is now published


The Ministry of Finance in the UAE has now published the much-awaited Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022 on the Taxation of Corporations and Businesses (CT Law). The issuance of the CT Law follows the Ministry’s announcement on the introduction of Federal corporate tax in the UAE earlier this year.


The Corporate Tax Law will apply to financial years commencing on or after 1 June 2023. Read more...

Pentagon And Lockheed Martin Finalize Lot 15-17 Agreement, Capping A Year Of International Growth

NOV has signed contracts with CIMC Raffles to supply a GustoMSC™ NG-20000X self-propelled wind turbine installation jack-up vessel design for Havfram, an offshore wind services company based in Norway.


The NG-20000X-HF vessel will be among the largest wind installation jack-ups in the industry. It features a 3,250-ton heavy lift crane and can install foundations up to 3,000 tons and wind turbines with tip heights over 300 m in water depths up to 70 m. KU and KFAS collaborate to launch Kuwait’s first satellite into space


KUWAIT: Kuwait’s first satellite was successfully launched into space on Tuesday in what was hailed as a milestone effort in setting up the country’s space industry. “Kuwait Sat-1” was launched onboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida, in an endeavor undertaken by Kuwait University and funded by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. CBK: Six Kuwaiti banks join GCC cross-border payment system


KUWAIT: Six local banks have joined the GCC Cross-border Payment System (AFAQ) in the State of Kuwait, the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) announced on Monday. This came following its efforts to develop the cross-border payment systems and deploy advanced technologies with the aim to enhance efficiency, minimize reliance on the financial systems and external payment platforms and reduce cost, the CBK’s Governor Basel Al-Haroon said in a press statement.



The second phase included the joining of six Kuwaiti banks, namely National Bank of Kuwait, Kuwaiti Finance House, Ahli United Bank, Commercial Bank of Kuwait, Burgan Bank and Kuwait Industrial Bank, having completed all the required tests and procedures, he added.Read more...

Kuwait’s KPI, Oman’s OQ and Saudi SABIC ink project development deal


KUWAIT: Oman Oil Company (OQ), chemical manufacturing company (SABIC), and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), signed a project development deal for a jointly owned petrochemical complex in Omani special economic zone, Duqm.


The agreement aims to develop a petrochemical complex with a steam cracker, derivatives unit and a Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) extraction facility, as reported by a joint statement. Read more...

KUWAIT CITY: The Global Peace Index ranks the safest and most peaceful countries in the world. This report is published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace, which defines itself as “an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to shifting the world’s focus to peace as a positive, achievable and tangible measure of human well being and progress.” A total of 163 countries are featured in the GPI report. Kuwait, GCC dairy firms seek hike in prices of products


KUWAIT: The Commerce and Industry Ministry has received memos from local and GCC dairy companies seeking to raise the prices of their products due to the spike in costs in accordance with neighboring countries.


“The first request was by a GCC country, but other regional companies soon followed, as the ministry is about to study these requests during this month. The ministry will review the requests to raise the prices of products as well as other requests including the ceiling put forth during the COVID pandemic in 2020,” sources revealed to Kuwait Times. Bid to manage Kuwait airports


KUWAIT CITY, Jan 1: MP Adel Al-Damkhi has submitted a bill on the establishment of a shareholding company that will manage Kuwait International Airport and subsidiary airports. The lawmaker pointed out that the budget for the airport has increased; while the administration and maintenance works have been entrusted to unqualified contractors, resulting in poor service and higher cost. He said the bill is aimed at nationalizing technical jobs in order to generate job opportunities for qualified Kuwaiti youths, improve the quality of airport services through a strategic partnership with an international entity and government monitoring, generate income for shareholders (citizens), and acquire experience through the implementation of local projects in accordance with the international competitiveness system like the Dubai Ports World (DP World) and Malaysian companies. Read more...

Kuwait Investment Authority 6th largest gov’t investor worldwide


KUWAIT CITY, Dec 6: Business Environment Improvement Committee Chairman MP Abdulwahab Al-Essa disclosed that the panel met on Tuesday to discuss the factors leading to the minimal entry of foreign investments to the country with representatives of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) and Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA). He said they agreed on the need for new legislation to address the issue and encourage foreigners to invest in the country. KUWAIT: Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received on Sunday ranking US Representatives, led by David N Cicilline – Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Middle East, North Africa and Global Counterterrorism, now on an official visit to Kuwait. The Defense Logistics Agency Support Team Middle East visited the 386th Expeditionary Support Squadron at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, Dec. 8.

U.S. International Investment Position, 3rd Quarter 2022


The U.S. net international investment position, the difference between U.S. residents' foreign financial assets and liabilities, was –$16.71 trillion at the end of the third quarter of 2022, according to statistics released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Assets totaled $29.73 trillion, and liabilities were $46.44 trillion. At the end of the second quarter, the net investment position was –$16.29 trillion (revised). DOE Proposes New Efficiency Standards For Distribution Transformers



WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today proposed new energy-efficiency standards for three categories of distribution transformers to improve the resiliency of America’s power grid, lower utility bills, and significantly reduce domestic carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions. DOE’s proposal represents a strategic step to advance the diversification of transformer core technology, which will conserve energy and reduce costs. Almost all transformers produced under the new standard would feature amorphous steel cores, which are significantly more energy efficient than those made of traditional, grain-oriented electrical steel. If adopted within DOE’s proposed timeframe, the new rule will come into effect in 2027. Read more...

USDA Invests in Critical Infrastructure to Lower Costs, Create Jobs, and Combat Climate Change Across Rural America



WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2022 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced USDA is investing $285 million in critical infrastructure to lower energy costs, expand access to clean energy for people across rural America, and combat climate change (PDF, 920 KB). USDA is also making an additional $300 million available under the Rural Energy for America Program, including $250 million through the Inflation Reduction Act, to spur further investment. 


“People in rural America are on the front lines of climate change, and our communities deserve investments that will strengthen our Country’s resilience,” Vilsack said. “President Biden has created a roadmap for how we can tackle the climate crisis and expand access to renewable energy infrastructure, all while creating good-paying jobs and saving people money on their energy costs.
