What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady).To apply to any limited submission posted in this newsletter, click on the link below and search for your competition listed on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.

The Breast Cancer Alliance invites clinical doctors and research scientists at any stage of their careers whose primary focus is breast cancer to apply for an Exceptional Project Grant. This award recognizes creative, unique and innovative research and is open to applicants at institutions throughout the contiguous United States. This is a one year grant for a total of $100,000.

The purpose of this program is to support education/teaching, and/or extension projects that increase participation by women and underrepresented minorities from rural areas in STEM. NIFA intends this program to address educational needs, as determined by each institution, within broadly defined areas of food and agricultural sciences
For this program, NIFA will support projects with a target audience of K-14 students (kindergarten through twelfth grade plus two years of post-secondary schooling (e.g., vocational technical institutions or community or junior colleges).
Applications recommended for funding must highlight and emphasize the development of a competent and qualified workforce in the food and agricultural sciences. WAMS-funded projects should improve the economic health and viability of rural communities by developing education and extension initiatives that focus on new and emerging employment opportunities in STEM occupations for women and underrepresented minorities. Projects that contribute to the economic viability of rural communities are also encouraged.

EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Track 4: EPSCoR Research Fellows provides awards to build research capacity in institutions and transform the career trajectories of investigators and to further develop their individual research potential through extended collaborative visits to the nation's premier private, governmental, or academic research centers. Through collaborative research visits at the host site, fellowship awardees will be able to learn new techniques, develop new collaborations or advance existing partnerships, benefit from access to unique equipment and facilities, and/or shift their research toward potentially transformative new directions. The experiences gained through the fellowships are intended to have lasting impacts that will enhance the Fellows' research trajectories well beyond the award period. These benefits to the Fellows are also expected to improve the research capacity of their institutions and jurisdictions more broadly. Principal Investigators must either hold a non-tenured faculty appointment at an institution of higher education or an early-career, career-track appointment at an eligible non-degree-granting institution.

The American Heart Association (AHA) has committed $20 million to establish a Health Equity Research Network to significantly advance understanding of the factors underlying the disproportionate impact of maternal mortality and morbidity on Black women, Native American women, and those living in rural areas. Because heart and vascular issues account for about half of these deaths, the AHA is uniquely positioned to address this critical issue.
Among the features of this grant mechanism:
- Focus on population(s) with documented disparities.
- Applicant teams will submit 3-5 projects.
- At least one project must incorporate the use of community-based participatory research (CBPR) into its research design.
- Network proposals must originate from academic institutions that focus on educating individuals from groups who are under-represented in science
OR must partner with an institution focused on educating or serving under-represented individuals and communities (i.e., institution of higher learning focused on the education of Black/Hispanic/American Indian/non-White students or non-profit community hospital or other research/care institution that serves an underrepresented population).

Humanities Initiatives at Colleges and Universities strengthen the teaching and study of the humanities at institutions of higher education by developing new humanities programs, resources (including those in digital format), or courses, or by enhancing existing ones.
Projects must be organized around a core topic or set of themes drawn from such areas of study in the humanities as history, philosophy, religion, literature, and composition and writing skills.

The James S. McDonnell Foundation (JSMF) is encouraging researchers to pursue new questions using conceptual and methodological approaches that take seriously the trajectories, biological and experiential, and contribute to the ongoing development of cognition and behavior occurring across the lifespan. JSMF is seeking to fund projects leading to new conceptual and empirical studies of cognition and behavior that:
- recognize the dynamic nature of cognition and behavior,
- are situated in real world contexts,
- cross levels of analysis,
- unite traditionally separate domains of inquiry (e.g. vision and speech),
- embrace complexity, and
- consider how behavior is influenced by interactions among individuals.

The participating Institutes and Centers (ICs) are inviting applications to support administrative supplements to existing awards of scientists who are outstanding mentors and who have demonstrated compelling commitments and contributions to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in the biomedical sciences. Excellent mentorship and superior training are critical to the development of exceptional future scientists. This administrative supplement recognizes the crucial role great mentors play in the development of future leaders in the scientific research enterprise.
The supplement awards will provide up to $250,000.00 (direct costs), not to exceed the cost of the parent award, to grants supporting faculty members who have mentoring and/or mentorship as part of their existing awards and have demonstrated a commitment to outstanding mentorship and training, especially to individuals from groups identified as underrepresented in the biomedical sciences (e.g., see the Notice of NIH's of Interest in Diversity). As administrative supplements, the work proposed needs to be within the scope of the research or training that is already supported. The award must have a component related to mentoring. Examples include but are not limited to: a Research Education Program that describes mentored research experiences, a Career Development section, a Plan to Enhance Diverse Perspectives, or a discrete objective related to mentoring.
Funds will be provided to perform additional research within the scope of the parent grant, to develop curricula or training activities to enhance mentor training, and/or to help foster the research career development of additional students, post-doctorates, or other trainees, and/or for additional trainee slots.
To be eligible, the parent award must be active and the research proposed in the supplement must be accomplished within the competitive segment. The award may not be in a terminal no-cost extension or going into a no-cost extension in fiscal year 2022.

NSF has established the RII-BEC initiative to enable institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions to set up bridge programs to facilitate the transitions of Affected Groups (e.g., women, underrepresented groups, research trainees, and graduate fellows) from one stage of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) training to the next, with particular focus on providing support for individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM and those transitioning from or to minority-serving institutions (MSIs) within EPSCoR jurisdictions. The initiative will accept proposals that support those individuals most strongly affected by the pandemic at vulnerable career transition points (e.g., first two years of college, or preparation for entry into graduate programs and/or the STEM workforce) within EPSCoR jurisdictions.
The initiative will provide up to $1,000,000 total per award for up to 5 years to support the strategic goal of reducing student attrition at these key junctures to improve future R&D competitiveness of EPSCoR jurisdictions. Proposals may include partnerships within and/or across two-year and four-year institutions (including community colleges). A key feature of projects will be a program strategy and plan for recruitment, mentoring, retention, and graduation of students (U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents) in NSF-supported STEM fields, with specific efforts aimed at underrepresented groups in STEM. The RII-BEC initiative is strongly aligned with NSF’s commitment to increase access for underrepresented groups to the Nation’s STEM enterprise.
