We are now only one week away from the 25th Annual Noquemanon Ski Marathon! As usual there are a lot of moving parts right now - volunteer placements and call outs (PS - we are still in need of volunteers - click HERE to sign up!), aid station resource updates, finalizing the bus schedules, media interviews, trail work (a LOT of that), facility planning, communications....a whole host of final touches. This is certainly a busy time. And, this is the time where all of you are interested in locating all of the information that you need. As a reminder, this newsletter is one place to get information - while it does have quite a bit of information, as does our Facebook page, these sources do not have everything. The race website (www.noquemanon.com) is the place with the most comprehensive information for you, and, we will soon make the official Race Bulletin available - this is the complete document with all of the needed details for the race. We don't publish this until we are certain there wont be changes...as we will mention further down the newsletter we do need to get some eyes on the course this weekend as the weather over the last week has wreaked havoc. While we do have good snow it has been unseasonably warm which can cause some issues for our courses given our terrain and number of water crossings. While we are not expecting course changes at this time, we need to assess things before the big machines go out next week.

All of that said, our registration counts are as high as they've ever been one week before the race - in fact they are the highest in the history of the Noquemanon! Needless to say, we are excited for race week.

Thank you for your interest and continued support of the Noquemanon Ski Marathon, and, the Rundman Jacobson Junior Noquemanon. We look forward to hosting you next weekend!

The Noquemanon Ski Marathon is a non profit event that serves as a fundraiser for the Noquemanon Trail Network. The race committee works very hard to keep event prices down while also having the capacity to follow through on our financial commitments and moving trail improvement projects forward. We are committed to offering a unique and high quality event at one of the lower price-points available for an event of this size and length. Thank you for your continued support and we are looking forward to our 25th annual event on January 27th and 28th 2023!

Course Updates
New snow totals of 8-10+ inches fell on 1/19 and with a few more inches forecasted on 1/20. This was certainly welcome after quite a bit of the rain fell earlier in the week.

We will be out assessing the condition of the course over the weekend - this will include all of the water crossings. Things were looking a little slushy on those before the rain fell and now there is new snow on top of it. Temperatures from now until race day should stay just below the freezing mark, although not much below. As much preparation as could be done was done, but we suspect the lake crossings could end up being a bit of a "character building experience". Seasonable January cold temperatures look to return the weekend of the race although the timing of that is not yet certain in the weather forecasts. If very cold air sits around for some time before the race, that will help those spots out. It also hasn't been cold enough for the creek crossings to freeze over so we will be out preparing those as well.

Course condition updates will be made available on the "Trail Report" section of the website.
Wave Placement and Registration Check-In
Wave Placement: Registrants in the 50K and 24K will self select waves using prior Noquemanon results, up until the wave fills, when registering on-line. Final wave placement will be subject to verification and race director discretion and early registration is strongly encouraged and spots in waves are filling fast. Don't wait until in-person registration at the dome the night before as you may not have many choices at that point!

New skiers to the Noquemanon who wish to begin in Elite Wave 1 (50K, 24K) must petition for wave 1 placement when registering on-line. If the wave you want is full when you go to register you must petition in on the registration site.

Bib pickup/Check-in: Because of the increased number of registrations this year we strongly encourage participants to register early and then plan to visit bib pickup as soon as possible - don't procrastinate. To reduce waste, bibs are assigned to participants when checking in and not in advance. If you check in late there's a chance we could be out of the nice bibs!

Check-in at the NMU Superior Dome will open at 5:00pm on Friday January 27th. This is for the Full Noque, Half Noque, 15 Mile Snowshoe, 12K, and Adaptive.

Please note that the Rundman Jacobson Junior Noquemanon participants check in at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming (not the dome!).

A complete Race Bulletin, with all the details needed for a participant for Saturday events, will be made available mid week and will be available at the dome in print as well.
No Cost For The Junior Noque
Because of a generous supporter there will be NO COST for Junior Noque skiers to participate as registration fees, and some primary operational expenses, will be covered annually through this generous gift in memory of Cheri Rundman! Cheri, who skied the Noque for several years under the last name of Uelmen, was an elite level skier from Ishpeming who often placed in the top 5 or 10 places. Cheri spent a lot of time skiing at Al Quaal which is now the location of the Junior Noque.

To further commemorate Cheri's legacy, the Junior Noque will officially be known as the Rundman Jacobson Junior Noquemanon!

Pre-registration through the RunSignup registration site, with no fee, is still strongly recommended for all Junior skiers. On-line registration for the Rundman Jacobson Junior Noquemanon will be available through Thursday January 26th at 11:5pm (eastern). On-site registration will then be available at Al Quaal Recreation Area just before the start of the events. Check in will also be at Al Quaal Recreation Area - it is NOT a the NMU Superior Dome.

For complete information on all events, please visit the race website at www.noquemanon.com
