Fourth Church’s Michigan Avenue Forum Steering Committee would appreciate your input!

As they plan future events that feature important religious and secular thinkers discussing current civic, ethical, and religious issues, they would like to hear what topics and formats would interest you.

Please take a moment to complete their brief survey at www.bit.ly/forumsurvey22
We are delighted that this Sunday Nancy Benson-Nicol is joining us in worship leadership for the first time.

As she begins her ministry among us as Associate Pastor for Caring Ministries and Spiritual Formation, please take a moment in the days and weeks ahead to extend a warm Fourth Church welcome to Nancy!

This Sunday is also Jeff Doane’s last Sunday as Parish Associate at Fourth Church. We are deeply grateful for Jeff’s dedication and care in his seven-year ministry with Fourth Church older adults and, most recently, caring ministries and spiritual formation.

Please join us—whether in person or by email (jdoane@fourthchurch.org)—in expressing gratitude to Jeff and wishing him Godspeed in his retirement!
Earth-Keeping as a Spiritual Practice
In a new four-week class beginning this Sunday, Amy Pagliarella will lead us in exploring what it looks like when sustainable living is valued as a spiritual practice.

For inspiration, we will turn to scripture and ancient Christian traditions, considering spiritual practices around food, stewardship, Sabbath-keeping, and gratitude.

For new ideas, we will look to nature and to environmental and political movements that invite us to tread lightly on the earth.

Sundays, April 24, May 1, 8, and 15
11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
In Borwell Dining Room and via Zoom

First Tuesday Book Club
For the next First Tuesday Book Club conversation, Nanette Sawyer will lead a discussion of How to Fight Anti-Semitism by Bari Weiss.

Throughout this book, which won the National Jewish Book Award, former New York Times writer Bari Weiss delivers an urgent wake-up call to all Americans, exposing the alarming rise of anti-Semitism in both the right and left in this country, and explains what we can do to defeat it.

The book also addresses the relationship between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism and opens an important conversation about how we talk about the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

Tuesday, May 3
7:00 p.m.
via Zoom

A Mask-Welcoming Community
Masks are welcome but not required for everyone on the Fourth Church campus.

As a mask-welcoming campus, we affirm that mask wearing continues to be an effective preventative measure for individuals. Thus we not only encourage the wearing of masks by anyone who wants or needs to wear one, but we are also committed to ensuring no one will feel out of place should they choose to wear a mask while at the church.

Since some populations are more vulnerable to COVID-19 than others, some programs on the Fourth Church campus may choose to require masks. That is a decision that is made on a program-by-program basis.

We continue to have a socially distanced seating section at the front of the Sanctuary on the pulpit side. That section is reserved for those required to or choosing to practice social distancing, and everyone sitting in that section is required to wear a mask. The remainder of the Sanctuary is open seating.

Additionally, we are continuing our practice of not checking vaccination status, but anyone coming on site certifies by doing so that (a) they do not currently have COVID-19; (b) they are not experiencing COVID symptoms; (c) they have no reason to quarantine; and (d) they will wear a mask and practice social distancing if they are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
If you know someone who would like to receive email updates from us but currently is not, please encourage them to add their email address to our distribution list by signing up at www.bit.ly/newsfromfpc
