Mission Sunday: A Day for Everyone to Enjoy!
by Suzanne McCord, World Missions Committee
|
|
You have probably heard: St. Philip’s Mission Sunday is this Sunday, February 20! And it will be a day for everyone to enjoy! Everyone––even if you have never thought about going on a short-or long-term mission trip. Everyone––even if you don’t feel called to serve at a local mission. Everyone––young, old, and in between. Why?
Reason one: The Rt. Rev. Dr. Grant LeMarquand will be our guest speaker for the Rector’s Forum and our guest preacher at both services. Bishop Grant is a passionate and eloquent speaker with many interesting experiences from his life of mission both domestic and global. You will not want to miss hearing him and meeting him in person.

Pardon the Interruption!
February 13 Livestream and Recording
|
|
Those who tried to tune into the 10:30 service on Sunday or watch later in the day saw that large portions of the service were missing. We had significant internet service disruption that day, but we do have a complete audio recording, which we are working on adding to the video. For now, you may listen to the Rev. Andrew O’Dell’s sermon and four of the children’s choir anthems at the links below. Sermon CDs are also available in the church office. Thank you for your patience as we also work on a solution to the issues we have been encountering.

Gift Card Collection for the Edgars
Welcome to Charleston, Chip and Beth!
|
|
The Very Rev. Chip Edgar will be consecrated as the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina on March 12. As he and his wife, Beth, get settled into their new home downtown, we would like to help welcome them to the neighborhood and to our diocese! The downtown parishes of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, St. Philip’s, and St. Michael’s will be collecting gift cards to help them get to know the area better.
If you would like to participate, please bring a gift card to one of your favorite restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, stores, etc. to the church office by Tuesday, February 22. You may include a note with your card about the place you chose and why it is your favorite!

4. For the new women’s Bible study on prayer to be well attended and for blessings upon the leaders, Margaret Donaldson and Charlotte Williams.

12. “Let FAITH arise and let our enemies be scattered.”
- For our leadership (the major, city council, and our governor): For the fear of the Lord to be in all of their meetings and decisions.

Smile Ambassador at Work in Charleston
|
|
The last inSPIRE day was so exciting! Marshall, our roving smile ambassador––who is back in the Holy City after an extended tour of duty in the northeast––paid a visit to the inSPIRE ladies last week! Shirley Burrous, aka the OG Dog Whisperer, has a huge soft spot for Goldens, and as soon as she set her hands atop Marshall's head, he forgot about everyone else in the room and enjoyed her caresses with half-closed eyes and half-exposed tongue––while Shirley smiled, of course!
The purpose of Marshall's visit was two-fold, though––he also had to deliver a card and gift to his old friend Gus, who turned the big 1.0 last week! Such a southern gentleman (even though he's Yankee-born...that's a story for another day!)!

Collect for Sunday:
O Lord, who hast taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth: Send thy Holy Ghost and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of charity, the very bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whosoever liveth is counted dead before thee. Grant this for thine only Son Jesus Christ’s sake, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Holy Ghost, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Readings for Sunday:
- Romans 10:9-17
- Psalm 96
- John 20:19-31
